Over the past years, I have tried several hubs that were mostly plastic, less substantial in size, weight, and feel and whose ports began to fail after 6-12 months. This hub is constructed of high grade aluminum and the ports have a very solid feel. The extra size, weight, and shape of the hub make it stay flat on the desk rather than flop around as plastic hubs tend to do. The hub has 10 ports total: 7 USB 3.0 ports and 3 5V Smart Charging Ports (1.0A - .2.4A). I liked this hub so much that I bought a second one and now have one on each side of my keyboard. I have had the hubs for several months but expect from their superior construction that they will be much more durable than what I have had in the past. I highly recommend this hub. It may cost more but it is well worth the price.

This Hub looks and feels solid as a rock. It has performed as expected since May 2019, until recently... 7 months after putting it into service. It now continuously fails to establish communication with MacBook Pro when external hard rives are plugged in. It began with the drives not showing up after computer wake-up from sleep mode. Disk Utility will not even find the drives plugged into the hub. Unplug and replug? No results. The ports used are powered, they glow blue and the drives are powered, but no communication with computer. All diagnostics done on computer are fine, and plugging the drives into a different hub works fine. But, even after a restart, the drives are powered up but are not communicating with the computer. Charging ports work fine, other USB devices that do not require communication with computer are working fine, so the problem is not power, it is communication. I am struggling trying to find a support number to reach for help, but, as usual, phone numbers are deeply hidden or non-existent like most other web merchants.

I've been using this for years and it's been a solid USB hub. The external power makes sure the devices aren't unstable due to lack of power and the metal case adds that extra protection to the device that is needed if you're jostling it all the time like I am to swap out USB devices.

I have had other brands of multi hub ports before. They always seem to cut out, a slot will go "dead" until I restart the computer, matters not which machine I'm using. But these SmartDelux powered hubs are the bomb! I first bought the 7 port hub, (with 4 USB hubs, and 3 charging hubs) and found that I needed to run more externals off it, several at once. This has no problem doing that as well as charging my headphones, trackpad or keyboard at the same time. Sturdy and rugged construction, metal shell, not plastic. These powered USB/charging multi hub gets the jobs done for me. I absolutely recommend this!

Connects and installs fine but transfers are another thing. I've been trying to transfer 15gbs worth of files for 40 mins...and it's taking even longer. Gets stuck for long periods of times. I hope someone from customer support contacts me and replaces this thing i just got it today. UPDATE: 1/6/19 They replaced the hub and it seems my first one was a lemon not do to the hub but to the power supply. It seems it had a short and it would power off and on. I'm pleased to say it works great now. 4 star minus one do to quality control.
