NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: Due to the recent illegal counterfeiting of this book, we cannot guarantee book quality when purchased through third-party sellers. The Handbook of Clinical Psychopharmacology for Therapists is the go-to resource for mental health clinicians looking for clear, reliable information about the treatment of mental health issues. Organized by disorder and, within each disorder, by medication, this book is designed to familiarize clinicians and students with the basic terminology and models of pharmacokinetics. This fully revised and updated eighth edition provides essential information on new medications and treatment options and includes the latest research on side effects, contraindications, and efficacy of all major medications prescribed for mental health disorders. The book also features an important new chapter on the effects of withdrawing from psychopharmacological medications. This handbook makes it simple to: get the facts about drug interactions and side effects; find out how medications affect adults, children, and adolescents differently; learn how different cultures view medical treatment, vital information for anyone who treats clients from a variety of backgrounds; and discontinue medication safely when needed. This essential guide to psychopharmacology has been adopted as a textbook at universities nationwide and is an important resource for every therapistโs library. Review: Easy reading on a complex topic - I bought this book as a required text for a graduate class. I found this text to be highly useful across classes. It provides information and facts about disorders and diagnosis, as well as the biological mechanisms of the disorder and/or treatments. Then, in a later matching chapter, pharmacological options are discussed in detail, including risks and benefits. My only complaint is that the book tends to provide a large amount of info on a particular medication option or two, while seriously lacking detail on others. If you choose to study one of the less detailed options, the book serves as a good starting point but further research will probably be needed for more detailed or specific info. On a good note, there are OTC and herbal options discussed as appropriate, plus an entire chapter dedicated to this area. This is generally a well-written book that is easy to understand with having minimal background in biology. If you need a resource for understanding mental health medications, this is a good one that is not too hard to digest. Review: Useful tool most therapist don't know they need - Any responsible therapist should be aware of how medications impact their clients. This is immensely helpful in that regard. Highly recommend.

Informative yet reads like a well written book.
It was required for a class however, I would recommend it to therapists because of the quality of the information including how to use it in practice.

Great text
Makes a complicated subject easier to understand. Well-written. Preston was my professors mentor, and he speaks highly of him. More than likely if you're ordering this it's a required textbook. Just know most other texts on the subject are far more difficult.

Good
Purchased this due to comment in my textbook Foundations of Addictions Counseling. It isn't a required book, but I thought I would get it to use when needed. Very pleased. According to textbook for my class they said this would be an appropriate text to add to psychology major substance abuse counselor library. Very pleased. Debbie

Informative, bad binding
The book is very informative and a value added text to every therapist's library. The major problem is the book's binding. There are only two sewn points and they are close to the center of the binding. This leaves too much loose space above and below those binding points which, after only a few reads, resulted in folds at the upper corners on the binding side. It feels like the pages are going to fall out from the binding every time you turn a page.

So many errors
This book is riddled with problems. Iโve encountered multiple errors in which a word is either missing letters or an incorrect letter is used. There were two spelling errors within the first 2 pages of the first chapter. Some pages look like they started running out of ink so the text appears grey rather than black. It honestly seems like they took the textbook and tried to reproduce it without checking for errors
