strong, smooth operation, and perfect for kayak storage
I installed two RAD Sportz Kayak Hoists side by side in my barn, and they have worked out perfectly. The build quality is excellent. The metal components feel solid, the pulleys operate smoothly, and the straps/harnesses are strong and well made. One of the best parts of this setup is convenience. I’m able to lower the kayaks directly onto my SUV roof rack and raise them back up after use without lifting the full weight of the kayak, which makes loading and storage incredibly easy. The rope length was more than sufficient for my ceiling height, and the locking mechanism holds everything securely once the kayaks are raised. The only reason I’m not giving the instructions high marks is that they could be a little clearer. They’re not terrible, but they aren’t the most straightforward either. That said, a quick online search made installation very easy, and once installed the system works flawlessly. Pros: Strong and well-built hardware Smooth pulley operation Plenty of rope length Secure harness straps Makes lifting and storing kayaks effortless Cons: Instructions could be clearer Overall, this is a great storage solution and an excellent value for the price. If you want to free up floor space and make loading your kayaks easier, these hoists are definitely worth it.

Great quality, very happy!
These are excellent hoists at a great price, way more heavy duty than I expected. We have a very light canoe, and a pretty heavy angler’s kayak that these were purchased for. The hardware is all heavy duty, metal, and good quality. The canoe is easily raised and lowered by one person without even thinking about it. The heavier kayak you have be more careful with if it’s only one person, but the brakes work well and I’m still very confident raising and lowering by myself at 125lbs (me, not the kayak). I’m actually a little shocked that they’re so affordable. 100% recommend. I almost bought a single one of lesser quality at a tag sale for more, so I’m really happy I decided to do some looking around and got these. The instructions, especially the diagrams, made them super straight forward to install.

Good for price. Decent amount of effort involved and sits rather low above ground
Ended up having to go perpendicular to my ceiling joists. Chopped off a foot from an 8 foot 2x4 and mounted the 7 footer mounting board to the ceiling joists with separately purchased 3/8 x 4 inch lag screws with a 1/4 pilot hole drilled first. Then mounted black brackets to the board with the kit included 1/4x2inch lag screws. Didn't have any issue with these included lag screws snapping off nor the cleattscrews that lots of reviews complain about. With that being said the included rope is indeed inferior and frays real easy on the pulley brake. Also don't cut it. You might not have enough length. I didn't cut it as per instructions and just used standalone twine rope to make the horizon brake line. My biggest con is how low this kayaks sits. On my 10 foot ceiling garage the kayak is barely 6 feet above the ground just grazing my head. In hindsight the 6 foot minimum distance between pulleys they recommend was dumb. On a 9.8 foot kayak this gets the straps way at both tip ends of kayak to the point that they barely hold and want to slip away. I should have done them 3 to 4 feet apart. The mechanism from ceiling to hooks in lowest parked position measured 15 inches and the another 20 inches after that for the kayak. Impossible to get this above my rolling garage door when it retracts which was ultimate goal. I put my kayak inverted and couldnt get the strap hooks to hold any shorter for a higher position off the ground. Also manual called for 2 people. I pulled it off by just myself. You definitely need a ladder or two and an impact driver. Also did not premount system to board. Did it in air after board was already mounted. Followed a real good DIY YouTube tutorial for this radz model on how to run the rope correctly through pulleys. For second ceiling kayak I need to mount I will be trying a basic upside down T shaped metal bracket parallel off ceiling joists and 18 inches from ceiling. Perfect for above retracted garage door. Rad Still gets a decent 4 stars since it accomplished the taks for ceiling mounting a kayak. Just need to buy some extra parts screws and woodplank if needed

Very high quality, sturdy and secure strap set.
Good quality strap set for securing and storing kayaks off the floor. Fairly easy to install but measure twice and cut the line twice! OR, use another line to tie the straps together so they won't slip off the end of a kayak. Very important for security to tie them together. (Watch a video of bigger boats slipping out of the lifting straps on a Travel Lift to realize the importance of this!) This set is quite heavy duty and can lift our 11 foot fiberglass kayaks (two sets of straps) with ease.

For the money, you can’t beat it.
This set up does work as advertised. The instructions are clear. I am a little worried about the pulleys. They seem cheap. And some of the construction is pop rivets, rather than proper bolts. So, we’ll have to see how it holds up, long term. I might wnd up replacing them... Couple of notes: You can install on a 17’ canoe, and you would think the 10’ spacing would be appropriate. But you’d be wrong. 6’ is the distance between pulleys unless you have a 25’ boat... Point is, do not install without your boat present, like I did, or you may well be *re*installing the unit. Like I did. I used pipe hangers and a 1&1/4” pipe (inner diameter). The pulley brackets are designed to perfectly fit a 2x4... they squeeze onto the pipe almost perfectly. Use a chalk line and a wax pencil to mark the pipe. Use a drill guide or a drill press to make sure you have 90° holes. Use a 1/8th bit to cut your pilot. Work up to the 3/8ths bit you’ll need for the mounting bolts. Use cutting oil to prevent burn out on your bits. (That’s what she said.) You can use fixed pulleys to the top corner of your garage, 90° from where the rope leaves the brake ...but, sadly, you cannot operate the brake from that position. I drop down from the new pulleys to deck cleats for a backup to the brake. But to get the boat down, I have to unwind the rope from the cleats and use a broom to pull the rope down from the 90° pulleys, on the canoe side. Essentially, the 90° pulleys are just there to keep the rope out of the working space of the garage. All in all a decent system. Considering it’s a two-pack for 34 bucks... it’s actually pretty amazing. Hindsight, And because I prefer over engineered and over built stuff to juuuuuust barely hanging on.... ... I probably should have built this using safety-rated pulleys and brakes used in mountain climbing... ... but since each component would have cost double what this whole system did... I can’t complain. YMMV.

Its ok. It'll work.
It works all right. The 6 to 10 ft in the manual is a lie. it comes with dual rope so you can put them two foot off of one another if you wanted to. The cleats they send are garbage. Look at the pictures. I did that with ease. they're straight aluminum and aren't worth anything. buy your own. It's a pretty decent setup if you're hanging things that aren't super heavy. The instructions aren't the best but if you have a set of brains you should be able to figure it out.

Get the kayaks off the ground!
It works really well, and feels very sturdy. I will say, the instructions say to space the pulleys 6 ft apart, but that was too much that they kept slipping off. Going closer to 5 ft worked great to keep the straps on considering the bottom is smooth. I didn't see anything about having the kayaks lifted sideways, but it works just fine to do, just once they were lifted off the ground, the kayaks can slide around easily. I took a few tries to find the right spot to hang them, as I got one up above over my garage door, but because I went with a 2x4 mounting board, I was a half inch too low that the garage door hit the kayak. However, next day when I tried again, I was able to mount both by myself in about 3 hours; instructions day you need two people and that would have definitely made it easier. But overall super happy with it; it's cheaper for this two pack than buying pulleys and rope separately.

Works great for bicycles
Most of the bicycle hoists which I could find seemed to be engineered to meet a low price point and not sturdy enough for safely storing bicycles overhead on a 13’ high ceiling. This hoist was designed for kayaks, so it is sturdier than most of the bicycle hoists. It came with two complete hoists, perfect for my 2 bicycle family. I provided the 1x4 lumber screwed to ceiling joists (see photos.) I also purchased marine style rope cleats to safely fasten the ropes to the wall (see photo.) The provided cleats would probably have worked fine, but I installed them next to the marine cleats to hold the excess rope when the bikes are in the uppermost ‘ceiling’ storage position. The cam rope locks work well and seem very secure, but, of course, you should use two rope twists on each cleat for redundant safety - don’t want a falling bike to destroy an expensive car or a human. The bikes are easy to raise and lower - and can also be secured in mid air to do maintenance work without having the bend over or squat. Some reviewers criticized the included rope, but it is certainly more than sturdy enough for bicycles. The j hooks are width adjustable and are also sturdier than the ones provided in typical ‘bicycle’ hoists, and worked very well on the seats and handlebars. In my bicycle application, I did not see any use for the webbed straps provided for holding kayaks, so I threw them in my parts bin for future use. The pulley wheels are nylon/plastic instead of steel. I’ve seen these types of pulley wheels fail on block and tackle equipment, but they were moving enormous loads. I think these nylon pulleys are sturdy enough for the much lesser weight of bicycles. But I would have been happy to pay a few extra bucks for steel - can’t the manufacturer offer steel pulley wheels as an upgrade option? Summary: fair price for two hoists that look great and do the job. I often get compliments on how cool these hoists look in my garage. ‘Nuff said.

Doet wat moet
Wel wat verloren ruimte tussen plafond en de locatie van de haken aan de katrollen. De kayak had anders wat hoger kunnen hangen.

Good stuff
The rope diagram was a little hard to follow. But easy to install and works good and seems quite strong.

Does the job, instructions could be better
Decent quality. Took longer to figure out threading than installing the kayak lift.
