If this is Polyester then why is this being advertised as Satin??

It's advertised as "silk like". Polyester is a cheaper fabric made synthetically; silk is a natural fabric made from actual silkworms.

Is this too large to be used as a purse scarf?

The nice thing about silk or silk like scarves is that they are flexible. The size of your purse should determine how you should fold your scarf to attach to your purse. Remember---it's not the size of the scarf itself, it's how you fold it. Don't be afraid to use your imagination.😎 FYI: If you ever get caught in the rain without an umbrella (I have), you can use the head scarf attached to your purse.😊
