Good seed cake for woodpeckers and other birds; price fluctuates greatly
We live in a log home, so woodpeckers are constantly on our house, pecking away. To try to avoid this, I usually have a woodpecker suet cake or seed cake hanging in front of the house, hoping they will go for the cake instead of our home. Many varieties of birds, including woodpeckers, feed off of these cakes. During this ongoing pandemic, these cakes have been difficult to find or have been priced unreasonably high. This Birdola woodpecker seed cake was available at a good price when I ordered it (under $8). The bag the seed cake was stored in was bigger than it needed to be, and a few of the seeds had fallen off in the bag. This was not a concern; I simply emptied the loose seeds under the bird feeder. This seed is excellent, high in protein, fat and fiber, so it should keep birds fuller longer. This woodpecker cake consists of black oil sunflower seeds, mixed tree nuts, white proso millet seeds, cracked corn, peanuts and gelatin. It is best to have it sheltered from the rain and snow, if possible. Although this web page says this cake weighs 2 pounds, the label actually shows a net weight of 2 pounds, 5 ounces. This seed cake is made in the USA.

Disappointed
When I received the order, the cakes were covered in insects eating the cakes. The cakes were close to being destroyed before being out my for the birds. I will not but this product again!

Feeds Woodpecker, Nuthatches, Chickadees — and More
I bought this woodpecker seed cake to hang in a large suet cage since I have tons of woodpeckers and nuthatches in my yard. I had hoped that this would attract the pileated woodpeckers that occasionally fly through my yard and that I can hear in the woods across the street, but so far, that hasn’t happened. Still, this feeds the other species of woodpeckers that live on my property, from small downy woodpeckers to large red-bellied and hairy woodpeckers. Smaller birds such as nuthatches, chickadees, and sparrows also eat from it. Unfortunately, it also attracts the squirrels, both red and gray, and raccoons, depleting the cake more quickly than I’d like. As long as the woodpeckers love it, however, I’ll keep buying more.— Debbie Lee Wesselmann

My first-- and probably last-- Birdola purchase
I typically buy the Kaytee seed cakes but had seen Birdola in the past and considered trying it. It's a bit more expensive than Kaytee but I decided to try it given the overall positive reviews. I received the product within the expected timeframe. And unlike other reviewers I did not receive the product broken into pieces. However, when I opened the package to put it in the feeder I noticed that the inside of the plastic wrapping was full of spiderwebs. There were cobwebs in the plastic packaging as well as on the product itself. Moreover, the seedcake looks old and stale as compared to most seedcakes I have seen. Maybe "stale" isnt the best descriptor-- but the coloring seemed "off." After placing it in the feeder I decided that the safest thing for the birds would be to not use it. So I threw it away and put out a Kaytee cake in its place. I regret paying for a product that I could not use for fear that it would make the birds sick. I did not attempt to return it and request a refund. I will likely not try Birdola products again.

LOVE TO FEED THE BIRDS
I love to feed the birds with sunflower seeds and with seed cakes. I have orders this special seed cake for Woodpeckers before and it really draws the birds to my bird feeders. I like the larger seed cake because I have a large seed cake holder and it last longer than the smaller ones. The birds love this seed cake.

Great For Squirrels Too
I purchased one for the 2019-2020 winter for my multitude of woodpeckers. Bought another this year but I don't have birds. Because it is so easy to put anywhere, the squirrels love it and keeps them from other feeders.
