Power out alarm
We have a photovoltaic system with battery backup on our house. But the batteries can only power the essential items in our house for a limited amount of time. A lot of our essential circuits have other items plugged in, and we need to marshal the amount of power usage to insure we don't run out of battery power. We put this alarm on one of the outlets that does not receive power from our battery backup, since the batteries take over seamlessly during an outage. There is a red flashing light, which is quite bright, and a VERY loud alarm that goes off when the outlet looses power. This lets us cut off not essential items, check the amount of juice we have in the batteries so we can manage our use. It is a great tool for people with systems like ours.

Wakes the dead
I got this for overnight Sous Vide cooks. Occasionally we pop a circuit when cooking with our Sous Vide, not often but it does happen. Some cooks can last 3 days and it it pops when we are sleeping it will ruin the meat. This unit could wake the dead the alarm is so loud. Just make sure to turn it off when you don't need it.

Garbage
No instructions. Installed a battery and it immediately made a crackling noise, got hot and started smoking. Returned it for refund.

Loud, maybe that's a good thing?
Great price. The product is a little loud. I think that is the point, but I would have appreciated a simple volume control even if it were a potentiometer screw sticking out somewhere. I would like to know that the power went out without being jolted out of my computer chair. Maybe I can make a muffler for it. it would also be nice to have a suppression button for the alarm so that the device can remain active for the next outage but the alert can be acknowledged and then disabled. Currently I believe the only way to disable the alert is to turn it completely off with the side switch and when the power is restored the device remains off. Its a useful alarm at a good price.

Lets you know when the power is out
We lost about $400 worth of meat in our freezer when the breaker tripped and we didn't notice for a couple of weeks. Not a problem any more. Volume is not adjustable and is very loud.

This can literally save your life.
I live in a rural location that loses power often, especially during very cold winter nights during snowstorms. One night, the power went out and my home temperature dropped to 45 degrees before I woke up and started the generator. I immediately bought one of these alarms. It works well and it's very loud. It will wake you up even if you sleep with earplugs. Just test it out periodically to ensure the batteries and on switch are functioning.

How to use this item.
It came with no instructions. You have to install a 9v which means opening the back. The easiest way is to insert a butter knife in slot on bottom and slitly price up while sliding back down. The plus sign for the battery is nearly vinvsible but the battery only goes in one way the small end up. The alarm is very loud so you can hear it a long way away from where you install it. I didn't need it so I open the alarm and disconnect the alarm so now I only get the red light blinking which is what I needed. The switch does turn off both alarm functions.
