I have a different jelly fish lamp and that one is much wider but slightly shorter – and that one without dish soap – it did not work. The directions with THIS one said nothing about dish soap – so I thought I would give it a try without the soap. And it actually worked. The jellyfish do move around a bit but when I turn it off they stay at the top. I think I am going to add dish soap so I have the same effect as my other lamp – where the jellyfish hang in the middle when turned off. Otherwise, it does function as is. The little fish swim around too – so that is fun. It was tough getting the air bubbles out of there and off the jellyfish – tiny little ones seemed to hug them. I think dish soap will help here as well. You plug it in and turn it on. There is a button to control the light so you can turn it off or cycle through colors and settings. There is also a button for timer as well. So relatively easy to use. I think this would also make a very nice gift. Especially for less than 20 bucks! That s a GOOD deal! This is quite am amazing little lamp. It is quite large and setup is simple, just be sure to have distilled water available for the best results according to the instructions. I had it running within a few minutes of unpacking it. The multicolored light adds a lot to the effect. They do a fair imitation of swimming - see the video I uploaded. I just was informed these do have a practical use! Apparently folks who have pet lizards or other small caged pets put these in the cages so the lizards can watch and be amused rather than bored in the cage. A friend did this. The only thing that kept it from 5 stars was that unlike the description says it did not come with a power adapter, but a USB cord. May just have been a fluke. It also runs on 3aa batteries.

This arrived today and I immediately set it up. I am thrilled! The Lava Lamp with the Jellyfish dancing, swooping and dodging, bouncing and darting about is so mesmerizing - and very relaxing to watch. I think of it as a coordinated ballet, so peaceful and gentle. The Aquarium style Lamp is so much fun to watch, and it's quiet. It came with very good instructions, electric plug for USB (I have that plugged in the receiver for the wall outlet), a package with the 2 soft wiggly Jellyfish (1 large, 1 small), and 2 regular hard plastic fish. For now, I just have the Jellyfish in the tube water container, but will try adding the regular fish later. Wasn't sure if it would be too crowded or get tangled up. Anyway, my new Lava Aquarium Lamp with the cavorting Jellyfish is fantastic! It's sitting in the living room in a dark corner with the different colors displaying different moods for the sea creatures. I'm impressed with how easy it was to set up, and how gorgeous it looks. It's perfect!

Looks amazing. I don’t know what sound people are referring too. Mine is quiet enough to sleep through. I don’t notice a sound. Love the size and color options. My one issue is the jellyfish tend to just hang around the top so hoping after a couple days they start using the entire space.

Easy to set up and worked great for about a week. Now it won’t turn on.
