Will this work on 1/2" stainless steel tube? i am wanting to modify an existing stainless steel wort chiller / heat exchange coil.

The tool is designed for soft metals like brass, copper or aluminum (with adequate heating). I tried stainless steel 1/4’ tube and it was too much to handle. Consider a dirrerent bender for stainless steel and steel in general.

Do you need to use bending springs with this for good results?

No you don’t need springs at all. I put my aluminum tube right in this bender and it produces really nice bends

Will this bend 1/32" wall stainless?

I used it to bend copper, which worked great. Stainless is obviously alot tougher, but the tool feels pretty solid. If i had to bend a few stainless lines, i would give it a try. For the price there is not much to lose.
