Japanese Skin Care Makeup Cleansing Gel, Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover and Gentle Facial Cleanser for Dry, Sensitive Skin, Step 1 of 2, 4.5 Oz

This is a makeup remover recommended by my dermatologist that won’t clog pores or cause breakouts. I need to wear sunscreen to reduce skin sensitivity, but micellar water isn’t an option because cotton pads irritate and worsen redness. Cleansing oils and balms don’t work either, as they typically contain fatty acids that feed Malassezia and can be hydrolyzed during cleansing. This is one of only two cleansing balms that are both seborrheic dermatitis friendly and suitable for sensitive skin. The other one is only 50 ml and costs 2.5 times as much, so I chose this one. I decided to write a review because it performs far better than I expected for the price. It’s very effective, helps loosen clogged pores and those tiny bumps, feels lightweight rather than greasy, rinses off quickly, and leaves my skin smooth and soft.

The consistency of the product isn’t what I expected from a cleansing gel. Its thick and very oily feeling and I expected it to be like a normal gel cleanser. I actually love it though. It takes off all my makeup and rinses completely clean with no residue and leaves my face soft and not tight. I use it as a first cleanse and use a different cleanser after. My skin is very acne prone but this isn’t breaking me out at all. I checked all ingredients before I ordered and it is noncomedogenic. I took off a star because the actual cleanser box was very dirty and beat up which made me suspicious but the tube looked totally fine so I decided to keep it and use it and so far it’s great!

Use it every day

Doesn’t dry out my skin. I’ve found I still have to use another product to remove waterproof mascara, so that’s why four stars, not five. A solid product, though.

I usually use their cleaning oil for two step cleaning but don’t want to travel with oil. Imagine what a mess that could make. So this stuff, being a gel, is perfect for travel.

Im sure this does a fine job for standard makeup removal but it doesn’t remove the cover girl waterproof mascara. I was disappointed.

It’s great for my sensitive skin

It is not unloaded very cleanly, and after encountering water, there is no foam at all.

Didn't know a cleanser could have such an impact on skin! I have sensitive combo skin, type one rosacea and I'm extremely prone to acne and fungal acne. I'm really careful with my skincare and have spent lots of money on it. Still something was missing but didn't know what. I'm hesitant to try new stuff since my skin is so sensitive but heard good things about this cleanser and thought why not. Have been using this about a month and I'm so happy I had to purchase couple of backups. It cleanses well but doesn't cause irritation, dryness or leave film on skin. My pores look smaller, dry parts have disappeared and redness is gone. It is just so perfect product I'm happy I tried it!

Excellent for dry or sensitive skin or people using acids/actives. Has a gel to oil texture, removes makeup and leaves the skin hydrated but no tackyness or film. I only need a light moisturiser or toner after this

I love this and so does my skin! Which is unusual!! Gets everything off but my eyeliner which is Wonderskin designed not to remove easily, ha! But i just use cotton bud and micellar water for that bit. The overall feel both during and after is giving silky smooth skin. No other product comes close!

I really like this makeup cleansing gel. I initially tried it in the Curel tester set they have and fell in love. I did then get full sizes of everything. Works brilliantly to get makeup off. This is meant to be followed by the Curel foam cleanser so you get a double cleanse. It has a gel like texture but after the double cleanse your skin is left feeling squeaky clean. Although this gel is brilliant, I always use Garnier micellar cleansing water to take off eye makeup as I feel that’s more gentle than using this. I have dropped a star as I found this doesn’t last long, so not great value for money. I have swapped it out with the Curel makeup cleansing oil which really lasts and is easier to apply.

Japanese usually divide their make up into point make up (mascara, eyeshadows, lipstick) and base make up (foundation, primer). Normally a make up remover for stubborn point make up like waterproof mascara is a separate category, followed by something like this gel to remove your sunscreen, primer and foundation. After all your make up is removed, you would use a cleansing foam to thoroughly cleanse your face and prep it for moisturizing. So, if you wear strong make up like waterproof mascara, smudge - proof lipstick and skin-clinging eyeshadows, I would advise to use a specially designed eye and lip make up remover, like elemis white flowers first. Then this gel will remove your foundation, concealer etc quite easily. I follow it with a good soap foam made with the foaming net. Or, alternatively you can try Curel's ready made foam, but it didn't work for me - it stings my skin. Gentle foam following this gel cleanser makes sure my skin is not stripped of it's vital protective barrier. All in all it is a reliable base make-up remover and a good value for money.
