will this hold an old model iPhone measuring 2 1/2 X 4 3/4 ?

It should no problem. It holds my Samsung Note 5 that measures 3 X 6 inches. The claw adjusts well to fit different sizes of phones. The only problem is it will vibrate when going down the road because of my phones weight, but if I rest the phone on the dashboard it stabilizes it and solves the problem.
