Alto 8 Plus 3.1.2 Channel Dolby Atmos Smart Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer, WiFi, Works w/Alexa, Google Assistant & Apple Airplay 2, Bluetooth – TS8132, 39-inch, Black

This is a good quality soundbar that works well with our TCL 55” Fire TV. I initially had problems getting the subwoofer to link and work properly but the TCL tech support helped me get it sorted out and working properly. I am now very happy with the unit and we are enjoying great surround sound.

When installing this be sure to follow instructions in the quick setup guide, step by step! Also absolutely be sure to download to your phone for Android the Google Assistant, or for Apple the Apple AIrplay 2 app! What this will do is enable the wifi link on the soundbar and subwoofer to download ALL current updates! If you do not do this it will not work properly! If you have issues linking your phone to the soundbar hold for three seconds the wifi link button (the one with the square with the arrow pointing to the right) and the display will show connected. Do this only if the phone does not succeed at linking them first. Also ensure bluetooth is enabled on your phone and on the soundbar there is the bluetooth button on the soundbar for this. Once connected and updates are downloaded be patient it takes awhile. Also make sure the soundbar output matches the port on tv, otherwise you will not get no sound. I watched several movies to get the Dolby Atmos experience: Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Halloween Ends, Trick R' Treat, Morbius, Dune 2021, and Venom. The sound is amazing from a 350 watt system. All of the highs, mid are well balanced in Movie mode which is one of three pre-selected options from the remote. And the one I use all the time. The Bass form the subwoofer is pretty impressive on massive explosions, deeper sounds, and music. The bar automatically detects the sound from the movie you are watching, for example if it is surround only then is displays this, if it is in DTS it will detect this and switch to this mode. Make sure the surround mode is on by pressing the surr button on the upper right hand corner on your remote it does make a difference! I watched some other movies that really shows off the systems abilities: Black Hawk Down, Act of Valor, the Jurassic Park movies, really showcase the sound! I highly recommend this system as I researched the other ones but at much higher price points! Definitely the best choice for being on a budget! Thanks for reading and hope this helps! T.Franz

** update** after a software update it stopped playing audio on any videos using Dolby. After 90 minutes on the phone with customer service they are evaluating my problem and I have a non-funcional sound bar, no longer at all impressed. I was looking for a new smart speaker that had Apple Airplay and then I saw this soundbar that had it. I already had a TCL TV so this seemed perfect. The pairing between the TV and the soundbar is literally instantaneous! It took me a second to figure out how to get the wifi connected to the soundbar but I just had to use the Google Home App (I have Google fiber) instead of using the Airplay/Homekit. Once I got that done I could connect it to Apple Homekit too. I'm not an audiophile but the sound is amazing in my little living room. This replaces my Yamaha receiver and Polk bookshelf speaker setup and the difference is night and day! What I love best is that I not only have great TV surround sound now without any complicated setup but I also have a smartspeaker that works with AirPlay, Alexa or Google and it sounds amazing when I cast my music to it. If you have a small house this is a one-device solution to all you tv/music needs. I have not been so pleased with any electronic device in a long time.

Was after a simple replacement for the tv speakers and this one is so much more and even better if you have a TCL Roku tv then it all uses the same remote. There is a less expensive 8-2.1.2 which I got originally but was DOA but this one is so much more capable of sounding better simply to the amount of speakers along the bar and a true center channel as well

Works well with TCL/Roku TVs!

Update: TCL customer service is excellent. The second unit had the same issue, but after spending a great deal of time with TCL customer service the second time, they diagnosed the problem. The issue was the Spectrum cable box was interfering with the TV in some way. Rebooting the cable box and swapping its HDMI cable ultimately solved the problem. For the price, this thing is awesome! A friend of mine that is a professional musician was very impressed with the sound (playing several "difficult" YouTube music videos). Not as good as my $1000+ 5.1 setup, but highly recommended. Original: Got it to work sometimes and it sounded great, but it would not reliably keep the connection to the TCL TV. Contacted TCL customer service, and after running diagnostics, they said it was defective. Returning to Amazon for replacement. Will update the review based on how the replacement performs.

This reads like I am writing ONLY a negative review, but read to the end.... there ARE some definite positives. I recently purchased this product to upgrade from my Samsung sound bar (2.1) with the intent to create a simulated surround in my bedroom. Extremely disappointed. If you are anywhere NEAR Audiophile, you will NOT be happy. The soundstage is extremely narrow. The ATMOS effect, (signal verified) is very minimal. Highs are very muted, although voices are absolutely FANTASTIC! The BASS is EXTREME! DO NOT corner load this subwoofer, you WILL BE turning it to the minimal setting and/or relocating it....it's amazing for a tiny sub. Unfortunately, it is NOT fulfilling my expectations, so I WILL be returning it to try the big brother Alto 9+ despite NOT being a fan of the looks of it. Good luck, hope this helps.
