If 10,000 is recommended for therapy why are there different brightness settings on some of the newer models?

For some people, 10,000 lux is just too bright. Therefore, we offer HappyLight® Therapy Lamps that provide a range of light intensities.

It's important to choose a light therapy lamp that's comfortable for you. Research at the National Institute of Health demonstrated that white light, anywhere in the range of 2,500-10,000 lux, is effective for treatment of winter blues.

What lux rating does this light give at a distance of 1.5 feet?

We only have The lux rating's at 6"

The light needs to enter directly into your eyes. Generally, a good position is on a desk or table at 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock. You can even position slightly higher than your eyes to mimic the angle of sunlight. Just like the sun, you don't want to stare directly at your HappyLight® Therapy Lamp, but you do need to be able to see it.

You also want to find a comfortable distance from the light. The closer the light is to you, the shorter the amount of time you will need to use the light to receive its full benefits. Many people (including most of the people in our own office) leave their HappyLight® Therapy Lamp at a distance of up to 2 feet and on for an hour or more while they work.

Just keep in mind that the farther you move it away, the longer you’ll need to use the light to feel its benefits. Think... closer = shorter time; farther = longer time.

Does restoring power to the device restore its last on/off state? That is, will it turn back on if it is turned on, unplugged, and then plugged in?

The next day I had to start over. It wont go to the setting you had after you power off.

I have an older model,5000 lux. does this not filter out uv? does it still help with vit. d?

Yes. Works great for Vitamin D3 and also increased energy and mood improvement.  I call it my Happy Light. Use in the AM for 20-60 mins. for the next 3 months.  By then you should see noticeable results and not want to break the routine.  I have no affiliation w this company or any other.  I’m just an RN who’s found success w this product.  Hope this helps.
