What is the battery life? “Long” is not descriptive enough.

For voice amplification you can get up to 10-11 hours on a single charge. If you are using for music it's more like 8-9 hours on a single charge.

Does the head set come with or do you have to purchase separately?

If by head set you mean headphone, it does not. This PA-25W Amp-Up Wireless comes with a UHF wireless headworn microphone, a carrying strap and a waistband hook for hands-free use.
