I use these specifically for jobs where a normal sponge simply will not cope, such as burnt-on residue on stainless steel pans, baking trays, and oven-safe glass dishes. The steel wool is tightly wound and aggressive enough to cut through heavy grease and carbon build-up quickly, especially when used wet with washing-up liquid. They hold their shape well during use and do not immediately collapse or unravel, which makes them effective for repeated scrubbing within the same session. The trade-off is that they are not forgiving. They will scratch anything with a delicate finish, so they need to be kept strictly for suitable surfaces only. After use, they must be rinsed thoroughly and left to dry, otherwise light rusting can develop, which is typical for this type of scourer rather than a defect. For the price, cleaning power, and longevity when used correctly, they are a solid household staple for heavy-duty cleaning tasks.
