Unexpectedly great!! (FULL detail review)
This review is by a professional, classically trained musician, and hopefully provides all the details you might need in order to make a decision. BASICS: - Bowl: Brown & Green - Base note: C (5th octave) - Overtone: F and C - Tuned to A = 432 Hz - Sustain: 30 seconds (approx) - Chakras: Root, Heart, OM/Earth Star - Pitch may vary between bowls (approx. C, C#, D) • In a Nutshell: This bowl has a relatively quiet but balanced sound with clear overtones. There’s something about the ring of the overtones that draws me in. Great for meditation. It sings easily and the rich sound surpassed my expectations, inspiring me to get more small Tibetan bowls! More details are below plus a video. **Please let me know if this review helps you!!** • PROS: It SINGS! Many small or cheap bowls have issues with this, so I was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful exterior and beautiful sound. For a teeny tiny bow (~ 3”), it has a rich sound with clear, well-tuned overtones. It’s a very pleasant sound in person, not shrill, piercing, or tinny sounding. This makes it a high pitched bowl that shouldn’t annoy anyone! ;-) It sustains around 30 seconds (quietly). I’m happy with the sound, appearance, weight and feel of the bowl in my hand. The mallet is well paired and functional for singing. Overall, this bowl far and away exceeded my expectations for the size and sale price. The video doesn’t do it justice. • CONS: See the review update and notes sections below for more detail and context. *Original: Though it sings, my bowl buzzes slightly on one part of the edge. The base note (C5) is a bit quiet, but balances with the overtones well. The packaging for shipment was…interesting, but didn’t result in damage. **UPDATE** I got a 2nd bowl just like this one and it’s slightly different, sings C#5-ish instead of C, has a slightly faded paint job, but no buzzing! It has a clear sound and I have no complaints. I listed cons mostly as a heads-up if you need something specific. I LOVE both bowls and was able to navigate around the C5 bowl’s buzzing issue by using a slightly larger and softer mallet. I included a 35 sec clip. Please let me know if this review is helpful!! • FYI NOTES: - Variation: There are small differences between each bowl, including pitch and appearance/detail, so set expectations accordingly. It will probably have a base note around C5 to D5 not with perfect tuning. Still worth it. My second bowl is C#. - Shipping: My bowl was shipped in a poly bag without bubble wrap. The bowl was wrapped nicely in brown paper with the pillow sitting inside. The whole thing was wrapped tightly in plastic wrap. This didn’t seem to harm anything. - Your technique will make the difference regarding sound and perceived quality. • TECHNIQUE NOTESR: How it sounds will absolutely be impacted by how you strike the bowl and where on the rim. Experiment with this. Think of it more as “inviting” the sound than whacking it. You shouldn’t be using a heavy hand or banging it like a massive gong. Maybe think of it more like tapping a triangle—just give it a brief “ding” with the mallet and you’re good. You will get the feel of this with practice. The contact between the mallet and bowl should be brief when striking, as the sooner contact ceases, the bowl can begin resonating. Longer contact can shorten that resonance or mute the sound a little. You can vary the speed or force you use to get a louder sound, but with brief contact regardless. I sometimes also think of it as “bouncing” the mallet off the bowl, like how a racquetball immediately bounces off the wall after contact. If you have issues getting the bowl to sing, keep trying and give it some time. These bowls can sing with the included mallets unless there’s an obvious defect. I hope this helps!! Enjoy!

Cute, but very small
The bowl has good sound for its size and is made well. I didn’t expect it to be as small as it is, but it’s still good more as a chime. My 4 year old like to play this bowl while I’m playing my crystal bowls. I’d recommend as a cute gift to a friend or for a child.

Get it!
Great sound quality, well made, it's so relaxing and peaceful. It is smaller than I realized , but still gets the job done.

Mid quality, uneven sound
It’s meh. I had a more difficult time getting it to sing, compared to a much larger ceramic version I recently purchased from Tibetan monks. I wanted a smaller, more portable and far less fragile version. As I was uncertain if I could get one to sing, I didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money. The monks had a couple but the least expensive was $105. The first few times I tried, I used the male end of the mallet (felt side) and got very little sound and it kept sliding off the pillow. I finally decided to flip the mallet to the only wood side and it made much better sound and didn’t slip off the pillow as easily. However, it makes a clanking sound every so often. I think the clanky part is because the wall thickness isn’t even all the way around. I’ve felt for spurs on the rim but haven’t felt any. I thought it might be the stick hitting engraved lines below the edge, but it doesn’t seem to be happening then. So the uneven interior is my conclusion. Further experimentation with the singing bowl. Conclusion now is that the vibration make the mallet “bounce” slightly causing it to strike the bowl causing the clank. If I push harder it lessens it, but it also makes the bowl to start being pushed off the pillow. The felted end of the mallet would also lessen this, but the friction is so great it spins the bowl. #science I don’t think I will return it, but I wish I could have tried it out beforehand. There is a local shop that sells them, but also rather expensive. I might try theirs. I could never get them to work before, but now I know what I’m doing slightly better.
