This device did not service its purpose. It's bulky and awkward. It doesn't ingest the smoke as advertised and frankly disappointing for the money I put out. I will be returning this item!

Device works well with smoke, but it's hard to clean, it gets very sticky very fast. It's only useful for a one smoker household.

I'm impressed. Took it out of the box, put in four AA batteries, turned it on, and our lives changed. As long as the cigarette is in the ashtray? No smoke!! I smoke. I should quit. Tom doesn't. He wins. This is a great product! I don't know how easy/difficult it may be to clean, but it makes no difference. It works as advertised. Burning cigarette in ashtray? Absolutely no smoke.Edit: I've cleaned it once. Very easy. I used cotton swabs and a QTip. Probably took ten minutes.Re-edit: Ha! Thought I'd weigh in again. After I cleaned my ashtray the second time, it stopped working. But worry not!!! The red light stays lit even though the batteries are low. I replaced then and voile!! The batteries lasted sufficiently. So if your ashtray suddenly stops working? Replace the batteries -- even though the red light is on. On mine, the red light was dimmer, but I didn't notice that until I replaced them.

This works really well, if I tape a sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" paper around the back and sides. Otherwise, some of the smoke escapes. It definitely needs cleaning periodically (depending on how much you use it), and it takes a little time, but it's worth it for the smoke it traps.

I'm guessing anyone who gave this a positive review hasn't had it very long. The thing is, it's totally quiet and sucks up more smoke than any other smokeless ashtray (I've tried them all). Unfortunately, once you clean it a couple of times it just stops working, period. And at some point you will need to clean it since it gets disgustingly gunkey. I'm on my second so I can enjoy it while it lasts.UPDATE: I finally figured out how to get this thing to keep working at least for a little while. You have to clean it thoroughly with just rubbing alcohol AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. It's tme-consuming and disgusting--your hands will be covered with tar every time you clean it; in fact just by picking it up. You can use a paper towel to clean most of it with alcohol, but in order to add a little time to its short life (been through a few already only because I like the quiet), you'll need to use a q-tip as well to get to those dirty inbetween parts. Of course common sense says if all that sticky tar builds up in the ashtray in just a day, imagine what it does to your lungs...but I'm the last one to lecture anyone considering I'm still smoking. So clean this ashtray thoroughly with alcohol only, till it shines....and do it every day till it dies and if you want another one you'll need to shell out another $45. Best time to clean all that gross tar is in the morning, right before you shower, so you can immediately wash that brown, sticky crud off your hands.LAST UPDATE: R.I.P. Ionic Smokeless Ashtray.NO REALLY, IT'S MARCH 2015 AND THIS IS THE LAST UPDATE: Even though this thing doesn't last long and is a gross pain in the neck to clean, the other smokeless ashtrays are no bargain either (like that cheap "Best Smokeless Ashtray Ever" with the motor that gets louder and louder till it eventually seizes up and your house reeks of smoke again). Call me a sentimental fool but I miss the quietness of this Ionic ashtray and the fact that it works great at least for a month or two. Yes, my last one of these died an ugly death like a final-stage lung-cancer patient well over a year ago, but still, much like a pet who passed away and was always trouble but you loved and miss anyway I'm buying another one (sorry, worst analogy ever).

This item worked less than10 days. I cleaned it twice - in accordance with the instructions - and it just stopped working after the second cleaning. It's a complete waste of money in my view, and I've asked for a refund. I'm still waiting to see how the seller responds.

As offered this item works and works fairly well, being a heavy smoker and letting the cigarettes stay there and burn does not help the tar effects on the doom/inside and out..after several weeks I decided to clean as instructed,Q-tips?I think not, It needs plenty of rubbing alcohol and many paper towels, and then Q-tips to get the edges and corners....Then after cleaning I cant get it to work again...Maybe the little needle is inside the cross bar and needs special attention and a magnifier to see it..will try soon to clean it again and make it work.Also noticed a crack in the doom on the outside/plastic thingy, I wonder if that is the cause of malfunction.

In a word, AWESOME ! I have this thing about smoking cigars in the house. In my 12' X 12' office, I installed a 140 cfm fan, an overhead paddle fan as well as a huge Whirlpool air purifier that is rated for 400 square feet. The Capture Ionic Ashtray is more efficient at PASSIVE smoke reduction than everything else together.The Capture Ionic Smokeless Ashtray is ultra quiet and clears all smoke as long as the burning tobacco product is in the ashtray. It cannot capture what you inhale or exhale but for passive smoke, it can't be beat.The weekly cleaning is a PITA but necessary. It is a little small for cigars but should be perfect for little lung biscuits. I am happy as if I were in my right mind.
