Color Harmony Wheel

I am thrilled to find this color wheel tool which gives correct perceptual complements rather than paint mixing complements found on color wheels typically used by artists who assume perceptual and paint mixing complements one in the same. Because of the differences in the number of colors and differences in complementary color pairs from paint mixing wheels, I had been confused about how to use Munsell's perceptual color wheel to derive harmonious combinations But no longer! Ridder's Color Harmony Wheel is designed to show a wedge of analogous colors, the complement to the central color, and 2 color discords. The directions are easy provided you know the meaning and usefulness of analogous and complementary colors. Just look them up if you don't. Once you understand them, you will love the visual simplicity of Ridder's wheel. Another extremely helpful feature of Ridder's wheel is having different color values and common names of the paint colors right on the wheel. I'm not sure how to identify split complements, triadic or tetradic combos, but, since I've seen some diagrams of them on the Munsell's perceptual color wheel on the Internet, perhaps Ridder will come up with something clever. Side Note: I looked through my watercolor library and noticed none of the authors showed the perceptual color wheel--only paint mixing wheels, however, their paintings frequently include perceptual complements. I think their color selections are intuitive, and intuition is pretty tough to teach. My first painting using Ridder's wheel showed a marked improvement in color selection; my colors are more lively and look "right." I highly recommend The Color Harmony Wheel.

Kind of expensive for what it is but I find it helpful when I’m trying to do paintings and pick color schemes. Somebody mentioned a book that goes along with it (Color harmony in your paintings by Margaret Kessler) so I got that too, but the back of the card provides a bit of instruction on how to use it. Basically you try to use the colors shown in approximately the amounts shown on the wheel. The quality is good, thick cardboard and bright colors printed in high dpi. The wheel spins freely.

Absolutely the best color wheel I've ever found. Had several kinds over the years but this is the most straight-forward, comprehensive, sturdy. For anyone. Not just artists but decorators, average home owner choosing fabric, paint, combinations. Really decent price compared to any art store offering. It may not travel very well. Subject to bending, being crimped, and center of wheel coming off.

This color wheel is fantastic. A very useful tool for artists, designers, crafters, and anyone who enjoys being creative with color. It is a quality product at an affordable price.

I hesitated but I am so glad I got it! What you don't see in the product picture is just how sturdy this is. It doesn't come on flimsy paper that in my studio will take a beating. Not to mention it was so nicely packaged it didn't come dinged, crimped or bent in anyway. The colors are definitely more realistic to the color of the paints and I absolutely love the craft background because it is so much less distracting than white. So if you are hesitating like I was, but you are an avid user or a beginner that wants a great too, this is definitely work the purchase!

It's a really cool and a must-have tool. Most of the color wheel talks about theoretical colors but none of them talks about practical colors and how colors work in practical. This tool really bridges that gap. Also, the material quality of the product is good. And the shipping service was really incredible. I received it in just 4 days in Pakistan.
