These may be silly questions, but can you sit down at all? How easy is it for a child to unzip this by themselves? Does it deflate if you unzip it?

Yes, they can pull up the costume and sit. It should be fine. Since the zip is on the back, there always better be somebody to help them. They can probably unzip by themselves. Unzipping the costume won't hurt as long as the fan is on.

My child is 5 ft 1 inch...will this fit? The adult size is for 5 foot 3 inches..hes in between. What would you recommend?

I recommend to select the child size. It could be 5'3" max so it should be able to fit.

Can you walk in it without rolling up the bottom?

That really depends on how tall your child is. Even if you have to roll it, it is not noticeable at all. This costume was a huge hit!! We love it!!
