Renogy Solar Panel Connector Assembly Tool

This worked great for disconnecting solar panels while working from the roof. Once you get the proper angle, it will be easy to use this tool. Also having two was good because I ended up dropping one and used the other that was in my pocket.

For two tools, they are a great price and they are the only tool that is spaced close enough to work on the MC4 connector of my panels. Even though the plastic tabs can break (one of my first two did break), it is nice that the tabs bend a little so you can fit them in you connector if the spacing isn't exactly perfect. For the price, they are great.

I purchased this Renogy tool because I was unable to disconnect the MC4 connector wires that connect my Renogy solar panel to my Montek 1000 solar generator after it had been outside charging for several days in the hot Texas sun. These connectors are always a challenge to disconnect, however I had done it successfully with these same cables several times previously. This time nothing I did would get them apart, so I bought this tool. With much effort, I was able to get one of them to disconnect with the tool, however no luck with the second one which is still stuck. I'm thinking maybe the intense heat (over 100 degrees every day) may have melted some of the plastic together or some of the wires inside may have melted together, so it may not be the tool's fault. Maybe if I had the tool initially and disconnected the wires earlier on that I may have avoided the problem I have now. The good news is that the solar cables still operate normally to charge my solar generator from my solar panel, so I am just leaving them connected until I can take the time to get new connector ends, then cut the stuck ends off and replace them. I saw a couple videos on how to do this which looks fairly easy. Meanwhile, this tool does work for disconnecting MC4 connectors as long as they are not melted together. It is still an effort, but it will get the job done. I will keep it and use it for assembling my new connectors, which this tool is also designed for, and will update my review to include how well it works for that.

The basic solar connector provides a secure, waterproof connection between solar panels and external wiring. If you need to disconnect them, it can be a challenge. This tool makes it pretty easy. That's my primary use for this tool. I keep one in the battery box I charge with solar panels. Once I'm done and breaking down the setup, having this tool available makes the job much easier. I typically do not assemble solar connectors onto cables, but this tool would make that much easier also. Sure, you could grab the nut with pliers and tighten, but you run the risk of slipping and damaging the connector. One of these holds the body securely as you use the other to tighten the nut. No risk of damaging the connector, no slip, and no leaks. It's the right tool for the job.

Made of cheap plastic The parts I needed to use broke the girdt time I used them. I used their customer support number, it said the number was no good. I bought this because it was a name brand and paid more. Big mistake. Hopefully other people had better luck. Waste of $9

they seem to be very cheaply made, thankfully they came with 2, first one with the very first use the prongs on the tip broke when applying to the MC4 connector to disconnect. if needing to remove a lot of MC4 connectors avoid this and purchase a metal pronged remove tool. if you are just needing to disconnect a couple connectors for maintence, then this may be ok for that.

If you are going to be connecting and disconnecting MC4 connectors this tool is well worth the small price. It comes as a 2 pack. The plastic is a very hard resin type and worked great for me. I had around a dozen connectors that had to be redone and w/o this tool I would need to resort to a pair of needle-nose pliers, and small flat-head, and a lot of cussing ha ha. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. I plan to order a another set or two to have on stand-by just because the price is good and the quality is excellent. Not a cheap piece of junk at all. You will be quite happy to own this product.

At first I did not think i need this item -- but ordered it just in case and glad I did. Yes, you could get along without this tool and you will be disappointed when you find out it is all plastic. You could use a screw driver and pliers but when you use this simple tool it will go faster and easier and will not scare up your fittings. They will end up in the bottom of my tool box and probably never use them again, but it was a handy tool -- you get two, but only need one, so, I think because they are made of plastic, the second one is your back up, just in case? Worked great, quick and easy.
