The Modern Guide to Antique Jewellery

I bough both the book on Antique and on Vintage Jewelry by Beth Bernstein. Both are very enjoyable books on the subjects. This book is well written and well researched with a lot of useful information and beautiful, clear pictures of examples. Easy to follow and full of absorbing material. I read a lot about jewelry but I learned so much about antique jewelry with this book. Well organized and logical organization and very enjoyable to read. I read it cover to cover very quickly because it was so informational and entertaining! Highly recommend as one of the best books I have read on the subject of antique jewelry.

If you like vintage jewelry you need this

This book has it ALL!! It’ll take you thru the periods, with plenty of photos. The different materials used, how to wear it, how & where to buy it, but we’re talking about the really good stuff, the really expensive jewelry, not the brass alloy and glass. Different gemstones, Mourning jewelry. How to care for it. The photos alone are worth it.

I was expecting more fr this book. Kind of limited in the selections. Being in the New York and London estate jewelry market, you probably won’t need this book lol

This is a very practical guide to antique jewelry. Great information and resource

this book is a bore the photos are reused over and over in the book. I close up, a montage a full view of the same item. Not really for a collector! tips on how to wear brooches in groupings! I paid for this book but you can keep your money in your wallet and buy something else. I really did expect a good book, I expect to learn something when I buy a book but this is not the case here the Modern guide to antique jewelry is not worth your time or money

Nothing new for a collector of Antique Jewellery! Pretty much all the pieces on this book have been in other Jewelry books!!! And the funny/annoying thing no prices of the auction prices are listed either. Sad to say I was really disappointed with it. Buy a used copy if you really want it!

The book is more like small handbook advertising well known retail jewelry dealers and offers very little accredited scholarly research or museum quality material that can be used for professional education. The author writes that she has been interested in the field of jewelry for a period of time far less than other credited authors of well-known books on this subject. She has not been part of a curation team associated with a recognized museum or similar exhibit. The book is perfect for basic readership interested in pictures of jewelry and dealers anecdotes.

Perfect book

I just loved the way the book is divided into parts that make it very easy to understand. The pictures are of great quality and are ample a number of them all throughout the book. Loved the vintage style hardcover. Enjoyed the content and the pictures too. A must have for a jewellery collector.
