Cuisinart - CPO-850P1 Cuisinart CPO-850 Coffee Brewer, 8 Cup, Stainless Steel

I’ve been a pour over convert since going to Costa Rica 8 months ago. I love the manual hand pour process and make sure the fine grinds you’ll find at the Market Centrale at “El Trebol Cafe” where they “fire roast” the same way for over 85 years gets the most flavor I know how to get after much experimenting. I do grind my beans to a medium fine (a little more fine) using quality beans. But the process was taking too much time as I needed to get up earlier to pour for me and my sweet wife to enjoy and then have enough to take to work.So as I would go back and forth between pouring and getting ready for work, I thought: “ Surely a machine could do this?”. After researching various options, I think I made the right choice. Here’s why: Flavor is very similar to my hand poured. The way the machine saturates mimics the process. Yet it does so with efficiency. There is a “ learning curve” IMO as different grinds and roasts require different settings. For example, the Terrazu Oscuro roast is very dark, but does better with the “medium “ option. Whereas the decaf Sumatran I like after dinner does better with the bold setting. A huge thing I learned is that I use WAY LESS grounds than when I hand poured... 20 percent less. This tells me the machine is super effective at extracting all the goodness. The programmability, options, and design are well thought out. I’ve had no problems with the insulated pot that keeps coffee hot. My only complaint is that i wish more could be brewed at once. But I can say that the size is consistent with what most manual pourers do. The amount of coffee grounds recommended by the coffee experts for this machine is way too much for this guy who likes a strong rich dark cup. Like I said.... give it a chance with your own experimentation, this machine is a gem. I’d love to have your comments with what you find out after experimenting.... Do you use less coffee? Different settings for different roasts? Enjoy

This machine brews very flavorful coffee! It is designed to brew a little hotter and a little slower than most drip coffee machines, which enhances the flavor profile. The built-in water filter is another nice feature, and is easy to change. I highly recommend the thermal carafe. If you have never used a Cuisinart thermal carafe, you may find it weird to pour at first, but you should get the hang of it quickly. There is a one-way valve built in to the lid which helps to minimize the amount of air that can enter the pot, helping to preserve the fresh flavor. Pre-heat the carafe by rinsing with hot water just before brewing in order to get optimal temperature. The carafe will keep the coffee nice and hot, without using a burner (which can make your coffee taste burnt after a short time). I moved to this machine after using another Cuisinart thermal carafe brewer, which lasted me most of a decade with a few minor repairs. I expect this machine to last long as well, the build quality is very good. The filter basket is easy to remove and clean.

When my old coffee pot broke and was discontinued I was sure I would not find one as good as it was. I was wrong ! I have used this coffee maker for 2 months and have been totally happy with it. The Stainless Carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours. It has a X-HOT function function, which I measured with a laser @ 200° F. The display is easy to read and the controls are simple to set. I never change settings so its 1 button on. The basket is easy to clean, I use paper filters, not the included washable filter. Several times I have found out that if you forget to put the basket in and put the filter in alone the coffee does not spill all over and it makes coffee as normal. Bonus feature ! Just don't try to sneak a cup ! I have had no problems with the coffee maker at all. Highly recommended. I love the Cuisinart brand.

We have a Technivorm Moccamaster at our house and are spoiled with the quality of the coffee it makes and the simplicity of the unit. Yes, it's expensive but worth it, for us anyway. We have a 2nd house and I've stalled on buying another Moccamaster because we're not here very much. I've been using a French press, which makes great coffee but is a bit of a hassle when making multiple cups throughout the morning for my wife and me. With COVID, we're able to spend much more time at the house so I decided to buy a good coffee maker and grinder. I still didn't want to spend quite as much as the Moccamaster so, after a bunch of research, I chose this Cuisinart with the thermal carafe. The main deciding factors were the good customer ratings and the SCAA certification. The latter may seem picky but I've found that the water temp is very important. I didn't care about much else as I'm used to the simplicity of the Moccamaster. I use the default settings (HOT water, MEDIUM strength) and the recommended amount of coffee (66g of freshly ground coffee on setting 28 of the new Baranta Encore grinder that I also bought). The coffee is excellent – great flavor, very hot, brews fast. The insulated carafe works pretty well. I like my coffee hot and am still happy with the temperature 30-45 minutes later. It's better than the Moccamaster insulated carafe, at least the one that came with my unit 7 or 8 years ago. I use a Zojirushi carafe with the Moccamaster. I may still get one to use with the Cuisinart but the included carafe works well enough for now. I lowered my rating 1 star because the filter basket leaks with the carafe removed and I haven't been able to figure out how to fix it yet. One feature of the Moccamaster that I really like is the simple flow lever on the basket. When I only want to make a small amount of coffee, I use the Moccaster basket like a Clever dripper, adding a smaller amount of coffee, closing the flow lever and letting the coffee steep in the hot water for 4-5 minutes, then draining. I was hoping to do the same with the Cuisinart by removing the carafe and letting the water and coffee steep in the basket. It doesn't work, though, because the basket leaks. The water is completely clear so it appears to leak around the edges and not after flowing through the grounds. For now, I put a coffee cup underneath the basket to catch the hot water and then drain the steeped coffee into the hot water. It still tastes very good but it's kind of a drag that the basket leaks. I'll still play with it and hopefully can stop the leak. All in all, we're very happy with this coffeemaker and recommend it without reservation.

I upgraded to this machine from a Mr. Coffee machine and the difference in taste is remarkable! Coffee stays hot for about 4 hours in the carafe with the lid set to pour. It may stay hot longer if the lid is not cracked... The temperature of coffee on the 'hot' setting is perfect for me, not scalding but not luke warm as with the Mr. Coffee machine. I experimented with the water-grounds ratio at different settings and am using half the SCA recommended grounds (from the booklet that comes with the machine) with the temperature set to 'hot' and strength set to 'medium.' I am amazed how much more flavor I am getting from less grounds than I used with the Mr. Coffee. I really like the sleek, polished, compact looks of this machine! The lighted display is uncluttered, easy to program, and functional. The 5 beep alarm notifies me when it is time to roll out of bed for a truly pleasurable morning coffee ritual. No bitter or acidic bite, no hot plate to worry about with the carraf, and I no longer need to purchase environmentally unfriendly paper filters (the very fine silt does not bother me). Mmmmm, this is great coffee!

Amazon was great, they consented to have this returned but sadly my wife discarded the box so I need to keep a 150+ coffee maker that is worthless. There are some good things to say about this machine. The quality is actually very good. Everything you see appears to be metal ( stainless ) unlike many which are 100% plastic. The operation is easy and water the fill area is very large which makes it easy in the AM when you want to get the coffee made fast. Takes only a few minutes to finish brewing and the coffee is fine. The thing that makes this a TERRIBLE PURCHASE is the carafe. It leaks so badly that no matter how you screw the lid on, no mater what angle you try to pour, no matter if you try to even pour the coffee over the sink, it leaks as much coffee as the amount that goes in the cup! How a company would not correct this issue is beyond me. I read the reviews but many were 2018 so I figured they got the message and correct the issue.... WRONG. So, I have had this now a few weeks and it gets me so upset each AM I may give it away. My counter is a mess every morning. All the good, the pluses are negated because of this problem. Amazon tried 3 times to get a rep from the company to contact them about the issue, NO response. Let me again make this clear, Amazon did their best but this coffee maker needs to go.

***Very Important Update for people who spend time reading reviews before bying**** Here is the update to the initial review in quotes below. I made coffee yesterday to put in my $12 MossyO*** travel mug from W.M. to go help a friend build a playground in temperatures that were below freezing for the first 3 hours of the build. Guess what? The coffee stayed hot! This had me really perplexed. This morning I made a coffee pot. I filled up my wife's mug for her to go to work, but waited on my coffee until I got home from dropping her and my daughter off at school. Less than 45 min later my coffee was on the cold side. I thought, I am going to call Cuisinart, surely they will stand behind a product that was almost $200. I got on the phone with the lady at customer support who informed me that they would replace the carafe but I would need to pay to have it shipped. I said I could mark the machine as defective and Amazon will take it back for free. She said that I would also have to put $10 In the box for return shipping. I said, I just spent hours/days researching and chose their product over the others. Now you are asking me to add $20 to the price because the product is defective? I asked to speak to a supervisor and her immediate response was, "I can but they are probably going to say the same thing." Really? Even if, who says that? After holding, she came back and asked if I had turned off the auto off function. I said, "Miss, this machine doesn't have an auto off function. As I told you, it has the stainless steel carafe." She then began to tell me about how the auto off function works. I then proceeded to educate her on her product and repeated my concern. After another hold, she came back and asked if the water I put into the machine was hot or cold. At this point I was floored! Once again I repeated to her the problem and informed her again that her company paid aot of money to confirm that their machine is certified to consistently make a hot cup off coffee. I repeated that the coffee stays hot when immediately poured into a travel mug so the temp of water going in is irrelevant. I asked again to talk to a supervisor. To save the details of repeating all the above. The supervisor said that the carafe is only designed to keep the coffee hot for 45min! Wow! I said, "I know you did not personally make this machine, but I am absolutely floored that this company would go through the trouble of making a name for themselves in the luxury coffee world and not make their stainless carafe hold heat like the average coffee mug. She also confirmed that I would need to pay shipping. I told her that she would get the product back, just through Amazon as they back their customers. I also told her that this machine would probably be the best on the market without this skimp on quality." She said the conversation was recorded and that she would pass it over to quality control. I said, "Please do." I hope you read this first if you plan on having your coffee stay hot in the pot, otherwise, simply get a single serve. If you drink it quick, it may work for you, BUT DON'T COUNT ON THIS COMPANY THROWING YOU A BONE AND BACKING THEIR PRODUCT IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG. Unless you Don't mind paying an even higher price. From three to 1 ONE STAR. I did not put one star at the top as many, like me, count many of those off and don't read them. My initial review below. "I did a LOT of research and landed on this BEAUTIFUL, CERTIFIED, WONDERFUL COFFEE making machine and then .... The only negative that I really saw, but did not give a second thought. THE CARAFE! Why go through the trouble of making such a beautiful machine, pay the fee and have It go through the rigorous testing for certification and then not isolate it to keep the coffee warm for an extended period of time? You even went through the appreciated trouble to put a flap in the lid to close when the carafe is not tilted, but skimped on isolating the stainless properly? We live in a day and age where 8 hour stainless mugs and thermoses are a plenty, yet I knew when the water first went in during the initial flush that the carafe was not insulated well because I could instantly feel the heat through the side. My average stainless thermal mug doesn't even do this. Why the three stars when most people, including myself, will drink their coffee in the first 30 minutes? Here we are January 3rd and the holiday guest have gone home. I was so proud to have such a machine so that everyone who came over could enjoy a great cup of coffee when they woke up, so I would wake up an hour early and put on a pot (I am fully aware that I could set the timer and it works great, but I prefer to not have the grounds sit over night) only to have the guest who woke up less than an hour later put their cup in the microwave. Well.... If the carafe were sealed like my inexpensive stainless travel mug, that would not have happened. Even as I wrote this review, the coffee was being made and by the time I finished, under an hour later, the coffee is NOT hot. Am I VERY pleased with everything else about this machine? You bet! And I hope to have it for years to come. I will just have to settle with the fact that from time-to-time my guest will have to zap fry their wonderf certified cup of coffee. Three stars just because I feel that this could have gone down in history as one of the greatest machines without the oversight or cutting corners on the carafe. I own an average department store travel mug that keeps my coffee hotter for several hours more than this carafe does for less than an hour."

This coffee maker just does just about everything right: -The "blooming" pause helps to make a perfect brew, and it's incredibly fast to the finish. -Large & bright time/programming display. -Simple to program. -Clock keeps perfect time and does not lose programming in short power outages under 70 seconds. -The 8-cup size is just right for two people... 2 cups each first thing in the morning, maybe a third later. That's okay, since pushing more water than that through a filter of coffee degrades the whole pot, IMHO) The only "con" I can think of is battery life. You have 1 minute & 10 seconds if power is lost before it loses all programming. This hasn't changed in my experience of over 20 years of Cuisinart coffee maker ownership (total of six DCC-1150xx models). Not a big deal, it's easy to re-program, and not worth knocking a star; but maybe a bigger battery next time?

Normalmente preparo mi cafe en una prensa francesa, me gusta muy caliente y con buen sabor, fuerte... Pero estaba resultando inconveniente por tiempo y espacio en mi cocina, calentar agua en un calentador, moler el cafe, poner en la prensa y esperar etc Supe del metodo "pour over" que sin saber antes lo utilizaba y me entere que hay unas cafeteras para eso que cumplen con algunos requerimentos siendo los mas importantes para mi la temperatura del agua, la forma en que se "vierte" sobre el cafe que es como una regadera y unas pausas que hace El resultado es un cafe muy bueno, caliente y fuerte Si estas interesado en las cafeteras pour over, esta es la mas economica que encontre (comparado con la moccamaster, la brewville, bonavita etc) Esta fabricada con muy buenos materiales, facil de usar con un resultado excelente OjO Nada que ver con las cafeteras caseras Esto es para conocedores (viciosos del cafe pues 🙈)

The Cuisinart CPO-850 Coffee Brewer is an awesome coffee maker with a nice stainless steel design. It keeps water at the perfect temperature and lets you choose your coffee strength. The reusable stainless steel filter is another plus in my opinion, so no more paper filters. It's super easy to use with a clear display and simple controls. The carafe keeps coffee hot for a long time ( I would say for 2-3 hours), and cleaning is easy. It can be a bit noisy, and the stainless finish might need a wipe sometimes, but overall, it's a great pick for a stylish and reliable coffee maker. This is my second one!

Read alot of bad reviews on this machine but I love all my cuisinart products so got it anyway and so glad i did. Got the one with the thermal carafe and its an excellent coffee maker. Coffee is nice and hot even without the extra hot option and carafe keeps it hot for a good 2 hrs or so, with the thermal one coffee tastes great as not sitting on a hot plate being scorched. Some reviews said carafe leaks when pouring but hasnt happened to me once and i use it sometimes twice a day, had it for about 2 months so far. Water/coffee gets trapped in the removable lid on carafe so i just give it a shake and then dry it bfore next pot and its perfect. Opening of carafe is narrow so use a bottle brush to clean, simple and easy. We prefer using the paper filters, melita bamboo,to avoid the sediment from the stainless steel one. We also use filtered water along with the filter in the machine and use kicking horse organic beans which we grind daily. Bold and xtra hot functions come in handy, timer works great and the coffee ready beep is not loud or annoying, just right. This machine makes the perfect cup of coffee for us and looks beautiful on the counter without taking up alot of space. Was pricey but absolutely worth it, wish we got one sooner

This coffee maker produces fantastic coffee, and the thermal carafe keeps coffee piping hot for a long time without any change in coffee quality. The one thing that loses a star is the carafe leaks when pouring, causing a little cleanup after every pour. That aside this is the best coffee maker I’ve ever had and would recommend it.
