WOWee One Power Bass Portable Speaker for iPad, iPhone, MP3 Players, Laptops, Mobile Phones, and Personal Game Systems (Black with Silver)

Trust me, I read up on tons of review before I bought it. I also check out other portable speakers, but just kept coming back to the "Wowee One". I just got this in the mail today (ordered from Amazon). Finally!! As open it, it feels a little heavy, but very durable. I took off the plastic protective covering on the gel-pad on the bottom and plugged in the 3.5 mm jack (included) to the Wowee and my iPod Touch.I first tested the sound like everyone else did by playing the music as I was holding the Wowee (in the air). So far the sound wasn't that bad coming out of the Wowee. I then place it down on a surface of my heavy dresser (2.5' x 3' x 1.5', with clothes in it) and the bass was fairly deep sounding to an extent (it needs to be deeper so you can feel it). The highs and mids are OK, but could be better (mids and treble kind of sounded like an old radio, but was clear enough). I love music and I understand how things are suppose to sound (deepest bass with crisp highs and mids). I like this product, but was a little* disappointed as other reviewers made it sound like this is the best! When I actually heard it for myself, it was pretty good, but not "the best"... I thought maybe I could enhance the sound a little by playing with the equalizer setting from the iTouch, the best sound I could get is a setting of "Rock" for the equalizer (too bad iTouch doesn't have a manual equalizer to adjust it yourself). I also tried different types of genres to test the sound (rock, hip-hop, R&B, club,) and the equalizer setting of "rock" works best for me. This gives any of my tracks deeper bass, with higher mids and treble. I was looking for that deep bass with higher mids and treble to get the "stereo" type of sound (as this speaker is a "mono" speaker, if you don't have the splitter). Anyways, I was trying it on everything to get the best sound (wifey and daughter was getting annoyed, haha). Like everyone else stated obviously if you place it on a surface that has an empty type of hollow space inside, you will get deeper bass. The dresser I was using to test the sound was pretty good. I also tried it on the bathroom mirror (3x4) with a slight space between the wall and mirror (1/2") and that sounded really good. I also tried the bathtub on a certain area (I think it was acrylic or fiberglass, not ceramic or marble)and the bass was really deep!Overall, this thing is pretty cool to have if you want a portable speaker with decent sound. I mean, for the size, I'm sure it blows other competitors away. Now I dont need to bring my other computer speakers (6 pieces, haha) if I want to have decent sound to small hangouts or whatever. Oh man, I want to take this thing camping too! Just make sure you bring something to lay it on to get the subwoofer effect (since your outside)...I would recommend this product if you need a decent portable speaker, but remember "surface is key" to achieving the deepest bass effects. It's a little high on the price ($59.99-$79.99). I would think they should make the price a solid $39.99 if you ask me (for what I think it's worth). Anyways, yeah, if I had the extra money, I would buy another one and get the jack splitter so it could be in stereo! Buy it!

This is a cheap unit but not made cheaply.The sound quality (if you can call it that) Is the best for anything under $150 for this kind of product..Then again it's hard to categorize the wowee as a product. I mean something you'd use for music on your laptop or ipodThe gel sub is an awesome invention and something I have yet to see in any other product.The up side is you 'can' get great bass out of this little guy and a lot of volume too. It sounds fuller than laptop speakers due to the rich bass the gel sub produces.The down side is, you have to have a good, clear, lightweight table top to get really good bass without mounting it to a wall or a door.Also, the volume and bass range are better than my Dell laptop, but the tone of the speaker on the front of the wowee, is far more grating when listening to speech.. definitely better than the Dell for music tho.I think the wowee slim has an improved front facing speaker and a tighter gel sub... But it's three times the price.If you have a chance to get a wowee one for $40 with free shipping, you will be a very happy camper that you bought it.It is really fun just trying out the sound of different thing you put it on (c: definitely has a 'fun toy' factor there.(Oh yeah.. you'll need something like a lint roller handy if you are going to be trying it out on lots of different surfaces..the stick gel sub picks up dust quick, and the bass just rattles if it's not stuck down well.)For me, being an audio guy, and owning snobby HiFi products from Krell, Arcam, and PSB (ooh! la-de-dah)... it wasn't just the volume or bass of the wowee I was interested in, but the sound 'quality'.To me, the sound quality is fine for music; playing in the room, while you're studying or doing housework.I'd never sit down just to listen to music on the wowee one. It's definitely not made for critical listening.It's like a clock radio with a subwoofer, but the size of your phone.Wowee one is not something to replace desktop speakers, but a great cheap alternative if you don't have any.It's a great portable unit, one of the best, and worth having in your laptop bag or as an external speaker for your iphone.Way better than any portable ipod dock under $150If you are looking for a really great sound at a low price.. get some Grado headphones. SR60i or SR80i they're only twice as much as this but ten times the sound quality.(once you break them in for 100 hrs... but that's getting into a different review)

Saw a video of this product and you cant really get the feeling of it as it depends what kind of speaker you are listening to the video with. Its a bit like watching a HD Video on a standard Tv.I have been most impressed not only with the sound but also the battery life. It lasts far beyond other portable speakers i have used and doesn't loose its charge over time.At fist i spent an hour or so with a friend putting it all all surfaces from walls, to bath tubs and bins to find the best sound as it basically uses hollow items as a speaker box to amplify the sound.I think the classic version is the way to go on battery life alone. Very easy to use as it has no buttons and switches on when it detects a 3.5mm jack plugged in.This may be a issue for some as the only way to turn it off is by removing the 3.5mm plug so can not be left it all the time. But as its a portable speaker this wasn't an issue for me

If your looking to take your tunes with you anywhere get this!it has onboard rechargable batteries,and use's any flat surface as a speaker, with good depth of sound.No mor bulky ghetto blaster required,just your ipod or mp3 or old skool walkman and your ready to rock those trails,rickety Indian trains get everyone up and rockin or bangara dancing on that chicken filled train or rock that bus in Nepal!!! kev

Recieved my wowee speaker today not expecting that much. Delivery was mega fast thanks to the express delivery option however this review really should be based around the speaker itself. Honestly, I can't think of any other portable speaker that produces so much bass yet hold onto the clarity of the music which should always be expected. Even though I do ponder in the dubstep scene which consists of bass heavy music- I do listen to various other genres and all of which I've tried with this speaker and clearly it's all smiles from me. Haven't been this happy about a purchase in a long time.

Sounds great for the price and its bass is very impressive.My only (small gripe, and one that stopped it getting five stars) is that the plastic covering the speaker is extremely thin and flimsy. A small knock and they would surely break.But, as a speaker - fantastic. Good quality sound on most surfaces - a good one to impress your mates with. Better than most ipod docks etc that I have heard that are double this price!

Great little speaker. Surface that its mounted on is totally key to how well it works. Glass is by far the best followed by wood and sofa. For a laugh toilet lid although not very practical. Had a few little speakers now and with the wowee one you can really tell the difference. Does not replace stereo by any stretch but then you can't take a stereo round with you.
