Dig It
I Am a metal detector first of all. I need a shovel that is going to get me the target I am seeking with ease. I use this shovel in Parks and fields in Florida. The ground is mainly sand which is semi soft but upon ocassion can be a mixture that may be more harder. The shovel blade is is long enough to get me into the ground at a pretty good depth on the first enrty. Edge of shovel blade is sharp enough to cut through most small roots and dislodge any small rocks you come in contact with. Shovel blade is made of very sturdy metal and will not bend very easily. The size of the balde allows you to remove a good sized shovel full os material. Steps at the top of the the shovel blade allow the user to apply enough force to enter the ground at great depth, cut through through small roots or get behind rocks to remove them. The shovel shaft is the perfect length. The shaft is very strong as it will not bend very easily and allows a great amount of force to be applied to remove, pry or break apart. The handle is a hard core plastic. Allows two hand use and allows you to apply a good grip without slippage. Sturdy, well made rough and rugged, for light to heavt duty use.

When you need it, you'll need it
A perfectly flat and straight, squared-off blade. Very well-built for home/garden use. Found I could use the shovel to scrape off a think layer of soil in one place and use that dirt to fill in a ditch elsewhere. Also good to shovel-off you-know-what from your front yard. Because of its straight, thin-ish blade it can be used to cut off weed and grass ingrowth into the mulched areas around newly-planted small trees. Could also be used for edging lawns. Bought it because I saw a video where it was used to slash, or cut into the soil deep enough to make a, slim crevice that would be wide enough to bury a low voltage wire - all without digging a more labor intensive ditch which would also take time to backfill. The idea is that you stand on the shovel until it's been pushed all the way down, then wiggled a bit to widen the top surface opening. This is a clever idea if your soil is naturally soft. But, if your soil is anything like mine with hard clay appearing 6-8 inches below the surface, this probably won't work - it's too hard to push the shovel's blade down all the way. However, a few days after a long, hard rain might make all the difference even for challenging soils. You may not use this one too often, but when you do it's the perfect tool to use. One of those specialized tools that's nice to have if you don't mind spending the extra money. It might stand in the corner of my garage for another 2-3 years before I reach for it again.

My go to shovel
This spade is excellent. Iโm always cutting new beds, or expanding existing ones. Super easy to get a clean edge, and then slide it under turf to get nice clean pieces of sod removed. Love this. Held up great now for 18 months. Still sharp. No rust and Iโm not easy on it!

Quality shovel, but don't forget to sharpen it!
Like most Fisker tools, this is a solid, well built shovel. Not much else to say except remember to sharpen it. Sharpening a shovel, including a lawn edging shovel, is always recommended because a sharp shovel makes digging and edging easier, requiring less effort and time. It also helps in cutting through plant matter more efficiently. Most new shovels come with dull edges to prevent accidents in stores, so sharpening them can significantly improve their performance. If you haven't sharpened a shovel before, be sure and secure the shovel by clamp or vise, with the shovel's cutting edge facing up. Use a file, coarse abrasive stone, or handheld grinder, which is what I use. Follow the existing bevel or use a 45-degree angle if it's not visible. Only sharpen the beveled side. As far as sharpening technique: For files or stones, push forward in even passes. For grinders, move along the edge without staying too long in one spot. Sharpening your lawn edging shovel (or any shovel) will enhance its effectiveness in digging or in maintaining clean and precise lawn edges.

Great handle!
This is to replace my worn out spade that has several cracks and openings in the spade metal. THIS shovel has thicker metal in the shovel, has a longer handle and a the loop at the end of the handle is great to use. I have never had a tool with this feature and I will look for it when I buy other tools because of the versatility it provides in use. I have not used this one a lot yet, but it feels so much better that I will use it even more than the old shovel because it looks more rugged, the spade is a bit larger which will be nady for all the trimming i do, and the longer handle will make it much easier and comfortable to use.

What a Difference a Quality Shovel Makes
I was digging up Liriope plants to thin them out and plant them in another bed. The soil is mostly clay so it not easy digging. I was using a name brand spade from the Orange Box store and when I had dug under the root ball pushed down hard on the handle to lever the plant out. Instead of moving the root ball up, the spade blade split in the middle at the point where it was attached to the handle. That put and end to the task for the day and I decided to give the Fiskars spade a try as I had a previous good experiences with other garden tools made by them. I was not expecting a huge difference but did I get surprised. With the Fiskars spade, it took me about 5 minutes to pull up the same Liriope plant that had broken my old spade. I was able to pull up 8 more plants in a few minuted per plant and replant with no problems. The blade is noticeably thicker than other spades and the angle of the blade in relation to the handle works well. The entire spade/handle is heavy duty steel and does not have any "give" when digging and using it as a lever to pull up rooted/bulb plants.

Excellent piece of garden equipment
Who pays over $70 for a shovel? What on earth could possess someone to part for that much cash for an item that costs half that at any hardware store? My guess, before I bought this Fiskars spade, was in some parts of the country there must be these weird festivals where gardeners compare spades and this was one that inspired awe and envy. Well having used it now to dig a flower bed in order to a marginal amount in professional landscaping I can say this is one heck of a spade. It is built like a tank. I removed so gargantuan rocks in my preparation and this thing hardly sighed when I was leveraging them out. The handle is very comfortable and the spade is a good height. It does the job. Now I just have to find one of those spade festivals to show this thing off and really get my money's worth.

Good choice for a long lasting spade
So far so good. I got fed up with breaking hands with other garden tools so thought Iโd give this one a good and really like it. There is no flex when working with it and is light weight. I will be buying my products of this brand as the build quality is good.

Expensive but very sturdy
This spade is expensive as it is shipped from the states, however I think it is worth the money as is is fairly light weight but very sturdy. My wife likes it also.

Built like a tank - I can see why its lifetime warranty
Just received this in the mail today. Have not put it to use yet but its a good height/length for a square shovel and its built properly and has nice weight to it. It does feel like a lifetime shovel BUT the handle does look like something that could potentially down the line break off which isnt that bad cause those are easily replaced. The rest of it is built solid like unbreakable pretty sure its all welded together as one unit which is fantastic. I am a landscape contractor hope to use this shovel to edge garden beds with
