Best for hiking and trail running shoes.
When I got my Salomon trail shoes I was skeptical about these laces. Since then I have become their number one fan. They look thin and less strong than other laces. After several years of use in the woods they did wear out but that would be the average use I could get from any laces. Most other tie laces in the woods need retied on an average outing in the woods and sometimes multiple times a day. That happens even when I double tie the knots. The problem is multiflora and other thorny shrubs tear at laces and find a way to untie your shoes. Well that is where these laces shine. They hold securely and I have never had to adjust them in the field. They are quick to loosen and tighten and they just plain work. I don't mind elastic lacing on shoes I use at home or when not in the woods but in the woods I like my shoes to be more secure. They need to be more firm fitting especially when I am scrambling over rocks and uneven terrain like we have in our parks from glacier deposits. Since I use my shoes mainly in these conditions, these laces are my favorite and the best I have ever had. I did watch a YouTube video to make sure I installed them correctly and was concerned until I realized that they had improved the locking device. It no longer had a removable gear but had an internal spring to make it even more user friendly. With the newer design you push the top down to open the holes to insert the laces from the bottom. If your in need of good laces for heavy use I highly recommend these.

Don’t throw away instructions!
Good quality but be prepared for frustration when installing them. Yes, I said installing because good lord this took a bit. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT THROW AWAY THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOX! Speaking from experience here… worked great on Salomon shoes!

Great for replacement speed laces.
I wouldn't use these to replace normal laces. They are too thin and I think they would rapidly damage the lace holes. However, they work perfect as replacements for speed laces. They are almost identical to the ones off my adidas shoes. They are a little tedious to replace. I used a little metal tooth scraper to push the laces through eyelets if they wouldn't go. it was a bit of a challenge to get them through the tensioning piece as well, but a little help from the tooth scraper got them through. Then, you have to make sure they are pretty even in length before you tie the knots for the final piece, then cut excess material and melt the ends. I needed a pair of channel locks to squeeze the two pieces together. Probably not the easiest assembly, but not too difficult and only about 30 minutes or work.

They are adequate, but….
Good quality and worked as advertised and seem as good of quality with the exception being the plastic connector. I used a toothpick to help feed the ends through. Also, after you cut the loops; I recommend pulling the outer material beyond the inner core. That way when you fuse (melt) the ends it is smaller in diameter. Some of the reviews talked about the plastic connector and it not holding well. So I took no chance and once I had the ends tied and in the plastic connector; I used JB Weld to glue the string inside the connector and glue the connectors together. It’s been a week and had no problems.

Best fix for Salomon Speed Laces!
I love the speedlace system that comes on the Salomon X Ultra, but the more recent ones (X 3),the plastic slide is not that good and it tends to crack along the side seam. These replacement laces and slides are very good, but the "connector" is useless (see last two pics). If you use a single knot, they will not snap together, no matter what the instructions say. So my steps are: 1) Use the old lace as a sample and cut the new ones a little bit longer (for the overlap to sew them together). 2) Melt the ends with a lighter. 3) Lace your shoes. 4) Add the slide. 5) Add the original rubber center-pull 6) Overlap the lace ends and use some strong button thread to sew them together. I go through both laces, then wrap both a couple of times, then through again. Tie off when you get the overlap fully wrapped. 7) slide the rubber center-pull over the overlap. DONE! 😎👍 Enjoy your speedlace shoes again.

The worst product design ever
I ordered replacement lace(s) because one in my existing Salomon hiking shoes broke after maybe 30 walks. First of all, almost $20 for a shoe lace, really? Anyway, I got it and start putting in the new lace. The instructions are useless. The holes in the Salomon hiking shoes are so small that getting the thin lace through holes took 15min and all kinds of magic tricks. Following the instructions and burning the ends of the lace is definitely not the way to do it. Then you try to get the ends through the clasp/lock, a little bit easier but still something most people probably cannot get accomplish. Finally you get to the point where you are supposed to connect the ends of the lace by using two plastic pieces that are supposed to lock to one another. It is impossible to get them to lock. But for me the worst was that at some point you need to cut the ends so that the lace is not too long. I ended up cutting it too short because a few times the lace came out of those plastic pieces and to get them through again I had to cut off a little bit from the end of the lace. So now I cannot get my foot in the shoe. I have one lace left but I do not want to do it again, I will just throw my barely used shoes away. This is the stupidest product design I have ever seen. No more Salomon shoes for me.

Not THAT hard to install, but not easy either
First off, I have to agree with the reviewers who wonder why such a lacing system is necessary. Isn't a regular shoelace good enough? Apparently not for the folks at Salomon. That having been said, my laces arrived without instructions, except for two incomprehensible sketches that don't qualify as instructions per se. However, I found several helpful videos scattered around cyberspace that were useful. Kudos and thanks to the good people that made those available! These laces were made for a number of different shoes and boots, each of which differs from the others in some way. In general, though, I believe that pretty universally you'll need to snip off the loops of your new laces to be able to install them. When you do, apply a quick flame to the severed ends of the lace in order to keep them from unraveling. That will be helpful for you. The only real problem I ran into is that the laces were a smidgen too thick to go through the first loop of one of my shoes. I used a thin screwdriver to widen the loop just a bit, and the lace finally went through. My original laces probably would have lasted for a lot longer, except for a puppy dog that got ahold of them. Now that she's past her chewing stage, I expect these new laces will last for the rest of the life of the shoes.

Easy install, works great on Non-Salomon shoes
Bought these as I wanted quick lace system on my Saucony Everuns (ie. Non-Salomon runners). Works perfectly. Was a little worried as many reviewers stated how difficult it was to install. I watched YouTube videos beforehand on installation also. I didn’t need to ... I think they’ve changed the design so that all you need is scissors and a lighter! Cut ends (read instructions to see if you need to do this step) of laces, heated with lighter and made ends pointy. Then threaded through the lace system plastic tightening bit (which is ONE PIECE and doesn’t need assembly). You need to have the bit in release “mode” (ie push spring mechanism down) to thread lace through obviously. No problem and very easy, no tools Or assembly of this plastic bit needed (as I saw in videos). For the plastic end lace “finishing end pieces” you need to tie a tight knot on both lace ends and pull it into the hole of the finishing pieces, or there will be not enough room to connect the finishing end pieces together. But it’s real simple installation and works great on my non-Salomon shoes!

Ottime stringhe
Ottimo .
