The Golden Age of Botanical Art Hardcover – September 23, 2013

Lovely book! The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. My only problem so far while reading it is some of the dates on pg.22 are wrong and don't add up. It has Albrect Dürer's birthday 100 yrs later as well as his death. Also it has one of his paintings from 1503 (which is correct) but him being born 50-60 yrs later. This unfortunately makes me a little apprehensive with facts and dates in the book.

This is one of the most visually beautiful books I've ever seen. I haven't finished reading the text -- I'm too fascinated by the pictures, but it looks to be a good survey of the history of botanical art which should also be fascinating. I'm an artist and tend to paint flowers with an impressionist style that is more concerned with the effects of light -- a very different technique from the detailed botanical painting here. The passion that these artists felt for their subject matter drove them to create a kind of ecstatic art that is much more than mere decoration. I am so happy I bought this book.

Paid $28 or so for this. Feels and looks worth way more. I am obsessed with this book. The colors of the many floral illustrations are very high quality. Wonderful book for anyone interested in getting a close up look at fine botanical art.

This book is amazing. The book begins with a brief history on the origins of botanical art and is then followed with chapters dedicated to botanical art through the centuries or geographical regions. Extremely detailed cOlor illustrations are on almost every page

My husband gave me this for Christmas. It is a wonderful book with beautiful pictures in it. I am anxious for summer to come so I can go out and paint. I was inspired by this book.

This book is worth it's price. The illustrations are beautiful. The book discusses many of the artists over the centuries who created these beautiful pieces of art. I just wish I could afford to buy the real illustrations.

i've just received this book, and i'm looking forward to read it all, it's full of great graphics, paintings, and drawings, but also lots of theory which makes it really interesting at first sight

Martyn Rix is a brilliant botanist ... addressing both historical and modern situations. This book is truly beautiful

This is a beautifully designed and richly illustrated book. Rix takes the reader on a detailed journey through the history of botanical illustration and art, highlighting important events, technologies, and figures along the way. Overall, this book is a must-read for anyone studying botanical illustration or just interested in it for the love of it!

I purchased this book for my daughter's birthday and ended up loving as much as she did! Gorgeous art and so much information. We are reading it slowly so we can soak in all the information. So happy to have ordered this.
