Aluminum Welding Rods Low Temp Flux-Cored Aluminum Brazing Rods 100Pcs

Ok, not too bad of a product. I’m not a professional welder and I got a pretty good result. If you follow these instructions to the T you will too. You’ll need Acetone and paper towels, go to Home Depot and buy the good torch from Benzomatic the TS8000 or the TS4000 with MAPP gas. I prefer these because they have the magic button that turns on the flame. The 8000 will melt the Aluminum so you’ll have to tone the heat down a lot. While you are there buy the stainless steel brush, this is an absolute must and if you don’t have a brand new Stainless Steel brush don’t bother on trying to solder. When you have your parts cut and fitted tightly you’ll be ready. Clamp your pieces to the desired spot wipe the soldering area with Acetone only and brush the area with the brush, do not use the brush on anything else other than Aluminum or you will corrupt the work piece and your solder won’t stick. Work up the heat slowly and test the work piece with the solder rod, a small chunk of the rod might break off, that means you are close, as it starts to bead and melt it will shine, this is the moment when you add more solder. Keep dragging the rod in the seam towards you following with the torch close behind it. Practice on a couple of scraps and you’ll get the hang of it quickly. The weld is strong , I did a test piece and I couldn’t break it apart with a hammer.

I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly, heated the surfaces to 1200 degrees. The rod material does not stick. My work was ruined from it being too hot and the rods still just melted and rolled off the work. Absolute garbage! Not worth the effort. Now my chassis is deformed from too much heat. Back to the drawing board. DO NOT BUY!

Update after using it to fix a radiator channel hole: this product does not flow well, the flux seems to be counter productive to flowing the material. Balls up well just heating the rod but as soon as enough flux gets melted to form a protective layer it also cools and hardens instantly even with continuous heat. Then you have to basically bring it up to or past the melting point of aluminum to get any results, which also melts whatever you're trying to repair. In my case it was a radiator hole, and the aluminum around it was liquifying before the heat could get through the flux layer on the added material. I've ended up with a globular repair that looks terrible with some unnecessary melted material around the repair. I recommend either cleaning the flux layer after every single dab of filler, or just hoping for the best. Would probably be good for pinhole repairs but nothing more than that without excessive work to clean and prep after every dab. It did manage to make a temporary repair, but it will need to be redone very soon. Looking at the ends of these I couldn't tell these were flux cored, for a second I thought this was just some aluminum wire someone cut and sent out. After snapping one open to inspect it I can confirm that they are flux cored aluminum wire. They are quite a bit thinner than I was expecting, but it should be fine. I got the 100 count pack so if I need to I can just twist some together to make a thicker wire for more material deposit.

Works pretty good for a leaking radiator. Rods are very thin but is expected for fast welding

So far I can't get them to work. Tried to lap weld two pieces of 1/8" angled Aluminum. Heated the metal to the point the metal was turning brown and the stick still would NOT melt. The stick would melt if I put it into the flame, but then it just clumped up and when I used the wire brush after, all the weld just flaked off. When I took it out of the clamp they just fell apart. I had better success with JB Weld and those pieces still came apart, but with a lot more force needed. Later I am going to try two pieces of 1/16" Aluminum, but I don't think it is going to work.
