No, it does not. Comes in a box that fits the knife nicely and lays in a cut out that's shaped like the knife. Once you lift it out it has a small point guard on the tip...

Is this item dishwashers safe

This knife is our pride and joy! Silly, I know. We bought it for buying meat in bulk and butchering to our liking. I don't put it in the dishwasher. After use I clean it and put it back in the original box and store under the kitchen hutch. Great price!
