Good quality for reasonable price

This is interesting food for cats. It's different than anything I have seen before really. Now that I have it and can see it, I know why they say you can use it as a topper on cat food. When you open the bag, the smell hits you right away. A nice stinky smell that your cat is going to love. It isn't the biggest bag at 26.5 ounces but if you think of it more as a treat or topper than dry cat food then it makes sense. It is in several different size pieces. Anywhere from the size of a pea to a small marble. When I gave it to my older female cat she wasn't thrilled about it. She didn't eat it at first but when I left, she started eating it and ate all of it. When I gave it to my younger one-year-old male, however, he liked it right away. He gobbled it down and liked it almost as much as his "Temptations" treats. Because soem of them are bigger I once in a while see him struggle with a piece. But he gets it, and it doesn't hurt him or anything. Because they are air dried, they are soft and flaky inside and can easily break apart. They are the same as any other air-dried meat if you have ever seen air-dried meat before. It shreds easily. The package says that the nutrients and the flavor stay in the meat even after drying it. I looked at the ingredients of what is in the meat and it only has so many ingredients compared to others and they are natural ingredients. The meat includes beef, beef tripe, beef heart, beef liver, beef kidney, and Hoki with ground bone. Now I don't know what Hoki is to be honest or if ground bone is necessarily good for them. I think it still holds calcium in it so imagine it is. It has healthy oils like coconut oil, and it has plenty of minerals. And it includes an herb, rosemary. I was surprised to see kelp and honey in it as well. And I really liked that it included New Zealand Green Mussels. What a treat for a cat! What cat wouldn't like that? It also includes a feeding guide on the back of the package. I think I am going to add it to my cat's dry cat food. Just mix it in and see what they think about that. Kind of like an added nutrient and flavor kind of thing. I am really glad I decided to try this on my cats and let other people know what the ingredients are and that I think most cats would love it like mine did. And if you don't like some of the sizes of the bigger pieces you can easily break them apart into smaller pieces for them. It's kind of pricey but like I said before if you use it as a treat or topper then it makes more sense and is worth it.

So let me open this review by saying that our cats are picky. I mean in the weirdest of ways, they are finicky. We can't ever anticipate from week to week what they will or won't like and it can absolutely change from love to loathe overnight. 🤦‍♀️ We don't usually experiment with expensive cat food for this very reason. I mean, why throw away money? With the Amazon Vine program, however, we have the chance to try before we "buy", so we will try out fancy foods sometimes. This looked like great stuff! Natural food, surely they would LOVE it! So my hubby added some to their dry food bowl as a topper and then put a bit on a separate plate for the recently rescued cat who won't usually eat dry food to see if she would appreciate this caviar of dry food. Nope. Not only nope, but so much nope that they wouldn't eat their regular dry food from around this stuff. We had to CLEAN THEIR BOWL before they would eat their normal dry food out of it again. We have tried adding liquid to moisten it and warm it up a bit, tried small amounts a couple of times, and nope. Not happening. Of course, then we looked at the price for that small bag and were suddenly glad that our cats don't have caviar taste because we couldn't afford to pay $40+ for a bag of topper food that wouldn't last 2 weeks if they DID decide they loved it. I am giving it 3 stars because the idea still seems amazing and maybe there are caviar kitties out there that would adore this. The New Zealand Natural Pet Food Co. Meow Air Dried Cat Food - Beef & Hoki Recipe, is a very healthy, well made cat food that my kitty absolutely loves! She didn't want to wait for me to get a scoop to add some to her bowl - she started trying to rip the bag open herself as soon as she saw it (lol). This food is air-dried with high quality, and fresh, ingredients. The food doesn't have a strong scent (at least not to me), but my kitty loves the smell, and taste of it. It's also the perfect size for her to eat, so she doesn't need any help breaking it up - it's already bite sized. I'm using it as a food topper right now, but it may also be used as a treat, mixer, or meal replacement, as it is a complete, and balanced, meal on it's own. Overall, we're very happy with this cat food - my kitty is an extremely picky/finicky eater, but she took to this kind right away. I highly recommend it! Just a side note: I think the name is really clever, the designs on the bag are eye-catching, and the package is well made. I especially like how the bag is resealable, which keeps the food fresh - I've an air-tight container for her food, but it's the only one I have at the moment, and since I'm using this food as a topper, it's nice that I'm able to keep it in the original bag, and it stays fresh.
