do you need lighter fluid to start the grill

Yes You need something to light it - lighter fluid will work - I prefer to use a chimney starter and newspaper to stop the lighter fluid contaminating the great charcoal. Also you can Buy great all natural fire starters - search “tumbleweeds”

Are these really the same as the Stubbs all natural briquettes?

I like these briquettes better than Stubbs. I use them in my gravity feed grill and my regular grill. Does a great job for me

Had anyone noticed a change in the way the coals look? Tey use to have no groves on them and the rip top color was brown. did cowboy change their coal

They may have changed the look of the charcoal due to their disassociation of the Stubbs charcoal brand. This is their new name and look. I've stocked up on it because it's hard to find in local stores...Hope this helps.

Are there any petroleum products or other chemicals that would be bad for my garden soil in this product?

just vegetable oil as a binder. Great charcoal.
