Mityvac MV8500 Silverline Elite Automotive Brake/Clutch Bleeding, Diesel Fuel Priming and Vacuum/Pressure Testing Kit, Ergonomic Design, Zinc-aluminum Die Cast, MV8510 Pump, 4.5oz Fluid Reservoir

I purchased this hand vacuum pump kit in order to vacuum and pressure test a chainsaw I am building. I had compared other options such as the widely sold sheet metal hand vacuum pump as well as other metal and plastic designs. I did not really want to pay a lot of money for something I only need to use for a few minutes at the moment so had some reservations about purchasing this pump kit, but after looking into the quality and reviews of comparable products I had serious doubts as to whether the generic sheet metal type would work at all and while I saw some good reviews of other Mityvac products I did not want to spend the extra money only to have a plastic model. For a slightly larger investment I decided to purchase this kit and am glad I spent the extra money. It seems to be well made, pulls and holds a good vacuum, appears to be accurate and I expect it will be something that will work for many years to come. In addition the kit includes a variety of block off plates, silicone (I think) rubber adapters and block off plugs and a number of hose fittings and (2) ~16inch long sections of tubing. Due to the cast alloy material I would be somewhat hesitant to use this with anything corrosive to Zinc alloys as I suspect it would damage the metal. I have seen a number of scientific companies relabeling this product and selling it for a significantly higher price which is why I mentioned corrosive chemicals. Zinc alloys can reacts with both acids and bases so I would certainly avoid use with such chemicals. The included users manual details a wide range of automotive uses which I will certainly try out in the future. I have not used it beyond playing around with it to test it and attempting to vacuum test my Chainsaw case after installing new crank seals. I seem to have a major leak where I attempted to block off the intake manifold so I have not yet been able to successfully use it for its intended use. I do however believe it will work ideally for this use. It has a valve which allows you to switch between pressurization and vacuum action and the dial reads in both negative and positive ranges. It also has a pressure/vacuum release located under the selector valve. I am glad I made the extra investment in this product versus other makes and models of similar tools and believe it will be a good tool to have around for a variety of uses for a long time to come. If I were buying for scientific/lab use I would however consider the plastic version due to my previously stated suspicion that corrosives might seriously damage the item.

I recently had to replace the CrankShaft seals in my chain saw -- BUT -- correctly Diagnosing the Source of the problem was a big Chore. After I had spent a LOT of time & work to rule out all other possibilities, I finally broke down & bought this tool -- Yep, sure 'nuff, the crank seals were leaking. After replacing both crank seals, I used this tool again -- Yep, NO More leaks. So, this tool really helped me to figure out the problem & to confirm that I fixed that problem. I've avoided working on chainsaw Crank Seals for many years, but now I have the confidence to go ahead and take on that job. It's not my favorite thing to do, but small-engine shops charge so much, you can actually buy a New Saw for less than the repair bill.

Used the Mightyvac to pressure and vacuum test a couple of chainsaws. Worked nicely to show me they didn’t have an air leak

Does not hold pressure in the bottle, seems to be a known problem but defeats the effectiveness of the product entirely. Tool works well, the other attachments ok but I was a klutz and didn’t notice the knob adjustment to change from pressure to vacuum and shot brake fluid out on my first use

Well worth the upgrade over the plastic version! when purchased, it was 30 percent more than the consumer level model. While the 20 year old plastic Mityvac this replaces still works, the gauge lens had cracked, and the plastic seems to ooze brake fluid like the creature in a Stephen King novel. The weight, feel, and solidity feels like a tool rather than a toy phaser or Nerf projectile launcher, it is satisfying to hold and use. The plastic version seems to get and stay extra slippery while this, the metal version, doesn't seem to get as unwieldy. The gauge is armored like you might find on Navy Seal level scuba gear, but we know mechanics are tougher on gear and have a smaller budget than The Seals. The kit includes some useful accessories but the mind bogglingly 'cost effective,' master cylinder adapters should be used to make a spirograph, rather than being used anywhere near paint removing brake fluid. The company history leads me to believe that rebuild kits will be available longer than I'll be around to use it. Made in China? Well, isn't everything including a majority of the stuff that comes off the tool truck? The quality control and company behind the name make this a no-brainer. I could afford a similar product if one were made in the US, but it probably wouldn't have the same long term dependability and support as the Mityvac. The included molded case is the usual will look good collecting dust in your tool box and 'it all fit in there when it left the factory, but once unpacked, good luck on making it ever fit again,' even after removing the plastic bags. The case ONLY holds what was included, no room for more hose, the fittings from your old Mityvac or one of the accessory large catch bottles. The only complaint is that once the hose has been attached to the pump, it is nearly impossible to remove, which snowballs to making it so the pump won't fit back in the molded case. Easy fix? Replace the straight barb with a 90 degree elbow with or without barb right? Fantastic plan if you have access to 1/16" brass ( unknown thread pitch so far) fittings, but for us regular people.

You can buy a cheaper vacuum or pressure tester but plan on being disappointed or buying another one after just a little while. I have tried to use a cheaper one I borrowed in the past to test vacuum activated 4wd hubs, to find the gun was bleeding off instead of the line I was testing. Might as well pay a little more to get this one that will do it all and last. I was needing to test oil seals in a lower unit and looked at pressure testers designed for lower units but they cost over $150. Came across the Mityvac MV8500 and knew I found what I was looking for. As soon as you pick up the gun you can tell it is heavy duty with full metal body unlike the cheap junk. The pressure gauge swivels making it a lot easier to see. Holds pressure and vacuum rock solid with no bleed off. Comes with almost anything you need. I did get a lower unit drain plug adapter to test my lower unit, but I believe I could have got one of the provided fittings to work. Like I said if you need a pressure or vacuum tester go ahead and get this one, you won't be disappointed.

This is a great tool to have for many reasons. This replaced my plastic version that lasted at least 25 years. Performs as expected right out of the box. I do not normally vacuum bleed brakes but with all the extra attachments will give it a try next time. Was able to test various vacuum circuits with ease, also test replacement parts before going through all the hassle to install them and then find a leak. Great tool to have it gets used a lot more than you would think.

the only vacuum/pressure tool to get if youre on a budget. The mighty vac works like a charm ! Ive used it to test chain saws, weed eaters, more chain saws and some carburettors also. Very happy with this tool.. It works as it should.

Siendo mityvac sólo se podía esperar calidad y es lo que ofrece. Cuerpo en aluminio maletín con accesorios todo de buena calidad. el reloj se puede girar en cualquier dirección. Lo único que tiene es una palanca por debajo del cuerpo para descargarla la cual es fácil de tocar sin querer y descargarla. Pero se puede quitar fácilmente.

Excellent quality. Good box with spare room. Does Vacuum (to 30 inches of mercury (-100kPa) and pressure to 30 psi (200kPa) - nice changeover knob. Gauge swivels. Bit picky but the pressure/Vac release toggle is too easy to release. Plenty of adapters but you will still need additional tees and reducing barbs for specific jobs. You may not use it often buts its always there. Answered a turbo actuator question in no time. Highly recommended.
