A timeless masterpiece
Understanding Value-Based Healthcare should be required reading for all medical students, trainees and faculty. It provides very easy to understand language of some complex concepts across the broad spectrum of "Value-Based Healthcare". The authors are some of the most well-known and revered leaders in the VBH movement, and are all tremendously successful teaching faculty - which is clearly evident by this easy-to-follow guide they have written. If anything, this book is way underpriced - an absolute "must-have" for anyone interested in understanding or working to improve value in their organization.

Well-written and practical primer for value-based healthcare
Great book for anyone looking to learn more about the healthcare industry as it continues to evolve from fee-for-service to fee-for-value. As some reviewers have mentioned, there is not necessarily anything "new" if you've been doing this for awhile, but the authors do an excellent job highlighting the key issues for a general audience. I really enjoyed reading the "Costs of Care" stories, as they are very true to form, both from the patient and physician perspective. Rarely do I read a textbook cover to cover, but this one was just too good that I had a hard time putting it down. I would also highly recommend this as a textbook in applicable educational programs (i.e. health informatics, health economics, managed care, healthcare finance, etc.)

Good introduction to Value Based Healthcare.
Great overview on the evolution of current Value Based Care, as well as evolving landscape, areas of opportunities to improve healthcare. The eye opening cost of care blog posts, it portrays the picture of current state of healthcare. It was good introductory book for people like me who works as HIT Vendor, trying to use technology to aid in making healthcare delivery more efficient.

Recommend this book to healthcare professionals
Great and informative read on where healthcare used to be, where it is now and where it's trying to head in the future. I liked how the authors compared healthcare pricing to other industries and shared stories along the way.

Why ruin your book about healthcare with reference to a Marxist White House?
I've been in healthcare as a physician and managed care medical director for 2 decades in California. Nothing new here to me but excellent summary of the key issues of today. However, these authors hurt their objectivity by mentioning Obama's White House in one chapter and there may be more such references I haven't found yet...this is childish and unprofessional.
