Tommaso Montagna Men’s Mountain Bike Shoes for SPD Pedals – Gravel & Trail Cycling Shoes – Compatible with SPD Cleats – No Cleats Included

Pros: - Good quality for the price. Faux leather is fine - the real stuff gets nasty in the rain. There's a solid mounting point for the cleat and a hard sole (good for power transfer) - Fit is good for a wide foot if you go a half size up. I'm usually a 10.5 US wide and am fine in the men's size 11 (EU 45). The Velcro straps can accommodate a high arch, too. I did a 2-hour ride with them straight out of the box and had no pinching or sore feet afterward -The cleat recess is wide enough to get in and out of easily, and the shoes are still very "walkable" off the bike. Cons: - The color choices are a little boring. - Not terribly weatherproof or padded; probably not the best option for multi-day touring (but still a really good option for recreational riding). Overall, I recommend these shoes as a great mid-tier option for single-day gravel/trail rides. I look at them side by side with the Crank Brothers Stamps I just replaced and don't see much difference, other than the Stamps costing twice as much (and coming in far cooler colors).

It's always an adventure buying cycling shoes online. These worked out great. The size reccomendatione of a half size larger was right on. Ordinarilly wear a a size 10 1/2 US (44), ordered a size 11 (45) and they were perfect. Not too narrow . I wear a D width or a W and they were just right. The stiffness in the sole delivered power from leg to pedal. I am an old school road cyclist still using toe clips. They were great on hills and long rides. The veloro straps were a treat coming from laces. Great shoe at a competetive price point.

Really good fit for my wide feet. Sturdy, good power transfer and easy to walk in. Time will tell about durability, the ratchet strap and how it attaches appears similar to other shoes I have had that were very durable. It says SPD cleats not included but mine came with cleats. They would not engage with my pedals though. There is a ramp on the tip of the cleat that isn’t on any other cleats I have and it’s a little bit wider. I put a different set of cleats on and they work fine.

These are my first pair of clipless mtb shoes. I will have a month with them on the 18th and still like them. First impressions are that I really like the simplicity of the design. Love the black out and reflection emblem on the Achilles padding. The Velcro are very strong and have not weakened yet. They are very stiff and sturdy when peddling. They is a significant difference between these and wearing sneakers with flat peddles. I did get sore spots (numbness) because I did over tightened. I assumed they needed to be, but after finding the speed spot, they feel great. Do be careful when walking on gravel. Little rocks do tend to wedge between the cleat and the shoe's cleat which will cause the clip to not clip in. These shoes work great with the Shimano PD-M520 SPD Pedals. Update: so the shoes still feel great and are starting to break in. I still need practice clipping in on the fly because I miss the clip. Nothing really bad to report on these shoes other than I really like them. I'm really glad I got the 100 over the 200 because I've been reading the reviews on the 200s and the strap clip breaks. I don't have to worry about that with the Velcro. I am a size US 8.5 and the EUR 42 fit perfect. Still have wiggle room which is what I wanted. They come with 4 metal cleat (see last picture). They are screwed on to the front of the shoe to help dig into the ground when running up hill. They work great but they make the shoes heavy. Since I live in valley terrain, I removed them and can feel the weight difference.

These are les than half the price of a Shimano or Specialized shoe but perform similarly. The ratchet feels like good plastic but is complicated which usually means shorter usable life in my experience, we will see. The size is good. They're comfortable and fairly stiff. I can't get them as tight as I'd like because of the velcro straps. The Velcro is stiff making it difficult to tighten on a low volume foot. I will modify them and make them work for my foot. Also I'm on the last click of the ratchet. To be clear for the price these are great. If you want the performance of a $300 shoe, buy a $300 shoe. I ride 3-6 hours a week and will make these work for me. Sav dat money

I replaced a pair of 10+ year old Specialized Body Geometry Comp shoes with these and they are very similar, with some aspects like the upper and tread design being nearly identical. The only differences: -The toe box is slightly narrower on the Tommaso. -The Tommaso sole is is a bit stiffer. -The insole is thinner and lacks Specialized's "body geometry" longitudinal support. I prefer the Specailized insole and I am using my old insoles in the new shoes. You might want to think about aftermarket insoles in the Tommaso. -The tongue is not as thoughtfully designed on the Tommaso. The Specialized tongue is thinner for the last ~4mm around all the edges and this taper helps minimize any bump at the edges of the tongue. The Tommaso is more abrupt. -The Tommaso are slightly lighter, but this is probably attributable to the buckle on the Specialized vs 3 velcro straps on the Tommaso. I opted for the velcro version due to negative reviews here on the buckle. From my experience on other shoes, 3 velcro straps works fine. So ignore any reviews that say these are heavy -- they are very typical for cycling shoes. Overall these are good enough -- and cheap enough -- that I'll be keeping them, particularly because Specialized has totally changed their shoes.

After having my last set of Specialized mountain bike shoes finally fail after 20 years (sole separated from upper at the heel), I went on an Amazon quest for a new set of SPD compatible shoes. I decided to try an save a few bucks by going with these Tommaso shoes, but I now have learned that was a mistake and a waste. The shoes themselves were comfortable for the dozen times I was able to wear them before they failed, but the fact that they could not make it beyond 12 rides is pathetic. I've included a picture which shows the inside portion of the right heel blown out. This is most likely due to an impact with my front chainring...something that happens from time to time in mountain biking and something for which a mountain biking shoe should be designed. It is important to realize that I never crashed while wearing these shoes...just a few close calls and clip out moments that are inherent to the sport. When I contacted warranty support to see if they could help, I was accused of letting my dog chew on the shoe (even though there are no bite marks) and received generally snarky responses implying that it was my fault the shoe failed. It has now been over a month since the snarky warranty representative stated he would file a claim, but there has been no additional communication. Fine, lesson learned...if you are pedaling down to the local Starbucks for a latte, these might be fine. If you are doing any actual mountain biking, do yourself a favor and go with a reputable brand. I now have a new pair of Specialized mountain bike shoes which I expect to get many years of enjoyment out of....the Tommaso's are going where they belong...in the trash.

I ordered the size 15 but received size 14, 48 EU. Please note that EU 48 does NOT equal both size 14 and 15 US, as this company appears to believe. Outside of that it is a decent shoe for the price. The 14 "just" fits so I will be keeping them. I'd have been much happier with an EU 50 or 51 but it is what it is.
