This may have solved my ant problem
We enjoy a summer rental and ants seem to be a reoccurring problem each year but after two treatments, I haven’t seen a living ant in two weeks. The lesson is, continue to treat every week for two weeks then monthly and your problems are solved. Battery operated sprayer is a real plus with a directional nozzle. Highly recommended Update 7/20 As I was preparing for this week’s treatment, the sprayer stopped working and after some troubleshooting there was still no suction with plenty of battery power. I write to ortho and here’s their response; Be sure that the end of the hose is firmly attached to the cap. Push on it until a distinct “click” is heard. The “click” indicates that the hose is attached correctly. * If have a spout on the container cap that flips up, make sure it is fully flipped up so it is straight up and down and not at an angle. * If have a knob on the cap, make sure it is turned to the "ON" position. When fully in the "ON" position, you should feel the knob click into place and the arrow on the knob will point to the middle of "ON". * Make sure that the wand is open and locked into position. * Check that the nozzle at the end of the wand is turned to an open position. There are either 2 or 3 open positions and 1 or 2 off positions (depending on wand version). * There is a lock on the trigger. Make sure that the trigger lock is not in the locked position. * Occasionally, some crystallization can clog the sprayer. After disconnecting the red plug from the cap soak the spray tip/nozzle in warm soapy water. This may dislodge any crystallized matter. The sprayer tip can be readily pulled off and snapped back on after cleaning * If this is the first time you have used the wand, be sure that the plastic protection strip has been removed from the battery compartment. The batteries will not engage until the plastic strip has been removed. * Batteries have a shelf life that will last through approximately two 1.33 bottles. It is possible that the batteries need to be replaced. The unit holds either 3 or 4 Double-A (AA) batteries (depends on the wand version). Replace the old batteries with fresh ones to see if that fixes the spraying issue. * If the sprayer motor is running and all of the above troubleshooting has been completed, the sprayer may need to be re-primed. To re-prime, place the container above the wand (either holding it above or setting it on something) and spray for 30 seconds in an area where the product can safely be dispensed. All Good advice but none of that helped with my issue. I write to Amazon and they immediately offer a no fuss replacement. This is why I love Amazon- Excellent customer service and they will continue to have my business.

IT WORKS VERY WELL - IF YOU USE IT CORRECTLY
This is a solid product. This is not designed for infestations or ant hills. It is a product designed to prevent entry of insects into your residence and eliminate individual insects that have entered. While this may help the odd case of colonized insects, it really is made for those solo runners that snuck in when you weren't looking. If you have an infestation or a mess, your insects are doing more than entering your house, they are living in it. Perhaps if it was sprayed around the house like the floors were being watering your floors it would work on infestations...but, PLEASE DON'T DO THAT, it wasn't designed for that use nor was that dosage tested for human/animal exposure. Consider calling an exterminator for infestations (100s+, colonies, groups of insects, etc.). And as for ant hills, either remove them, or buy poison for ant mounds. Are there ant hills in your home? That seems like a different problem. After you've taken care of cleaning things up, then protect your residence from the entry of new insects. You'll see this product is WONDERFUL FOR THE JOB. I've used it for years, one home in a very wooded, shaded area, one home in the south. Works like a charm...spraying as others have mentioned...seasonally. This product works by leaving a residue, so if what you spray it on (baseboard, perimeter of home covered in leaves in the fall, edge of home outside, etc.) is cleaned, blown away, excessively rained on...some or all of that residue will be removed...particularly overtime. Be aware of your specific situation and adjust your application frequency accordingly. IF YOU CREATE A BARRIER, THEY WILL NOT ENTER. (Read the label for all the insects covered...it's extensive.) 1. Clean up your outside and inside space a little of non-permanent items, pulling things from the perimeter (toys, anything that shouldn't be on the floor or ground basically). Eliminate debris and items in which insects hide, make webs, etc. 2. Spray the OUTSIDE perimeter and along the border of every door and window. 3. Spray the INSIDE perimeter, along the base boards, of your whole house (closets, pantries, bathrooms included). Then spray a barrier between rooms (around the door frame). Lastly, I understand the frustration that might occur if your wand or applicator never came. Exchange it with Amazon, try a spray bottle, etc. I've been using this with pets. Label says that IT MUST DRY BEFORE IT IS OK WITH PETS. Please remove them from the area while you apply. If you have a pet roach or tarantula I don't know what to tell you. All the best, and good luck with your application.

Ultimate Indoor and Perimeter Protection with Easy Application
Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer has been an absolute game-changer for maintaining a pest-free home. As someone who has tried numerous insect control products over the years, I can confidently say that this is the most effective and convenient solution I've ever used. The combination of powerful pest control and user-friendly application makes it stand head and shoulders above competing products on the market. The Comfort Wand application system is brilliantly designed and makes treating your home remarkably easy and efficient. The wand extends your reach and provides excellent control over where the product goes, allowing precise application along baseboards, in corners, around windows and doors, and in other areas where insects typically enter or travel. The battery-powered spray mechanism creates a consistent, even application without any pumping or manual effort. This means I can treat my entire home's perimeter and problem areas without fatigue or inconsistent coverage, which is a huge improvement over traditional pump sprayers. The effectiveness of this product against a wide variety of common household pests is truly impressive. I've used it successfully to control ants, roaches, spiders, centipedes, and other crawling insects that occasionally try to invade my home. The results are both immediate and long-lasting. Within hours of application, I notice a dramatic reduction in pest activity, and the protection continues for months. The product creates an invisible barrier that insects cannot cross without being affected, providing ongoing protection that prevents infestations before they can establish themselves. One of the features I appreciate most is the indoor and perimeter dual-use formula. I can use the same product both inside my home and around the exterior foundation, doors, and windows. This versatility eliminates the need to purchase and manage multiple products for different applications. The indoor formula is designed to be used safely in living spaces when applied according to directions, and it dries quickly without leaving visible residue or strong odors. This makes it ideal for treating areas where family and pets spend time. The coverage provided by the large bottle is exceptional. The gallon size treats a substantial area, making it economical for whole-home protection and perimeter treatment. I typically treat my entire home's interior baseboards and exterior foundation with one bottle, with enough left over for spot treatments as needed throughout the season. This excellent coverage means fewer trips to the store and better value compared to smaller containers or more expensive professional treatments. Application is straightforward and requires minimal preparation.

Convenient Application, Mixed Results Against Spiders
The Ortho Home Defense Insect Killer for Indoor & Perimeter2 with Comfort Wand is a highly popular product that offers convenience and ease of application, but its effectiveness appears to vary significantly depending on the target pest. This review reflects a generally neutral experience based on mixed results. The Good: Convenience and Initial Knockdown: The biggest positive is the Comfort Wand. The battery-powered continuous spray feature is excellent for treating long baseboards, window frames, and the exterior foundation perimeter without hand fatigue or constant pumping. The formula itself is odorless and dries clear, which is a major plus for indoor use. Against smaller, crawling insects like ants, earwigs, and common beetles, the product seems to create a reliable and lasting barrier, and we noticed a sharp drop in their numbers after application. The Neutral/Area for Improvement: Spider Effectiveness: While the product packaging claims to be effective against spiders, this is where the results were disappointing. After applying the barrier both indoors and around the exterior foundation, we observed multiple instances of spiders (both large and small) crawling directly over the dried barrier without any immediate, noticeable effect. It appears that the primary active ingredient (Bifenthrin) relies on the pest to groom itself or ingest the residue to be effective. Since spiders do not groom themselves in the same way as insects, they seem less susceptible to the barrier effect and can seemingly walk right over the treated surfaces for an extended period before dying, if they die at all. This lack of immediate knockdown on spiders is frustrating when trying to create a true perimeter defense. Final Verdict: If you are primarily battling ants, roaches, and other standard crawling insects, this is a very effective and user-friendly solution, especially thanks to the excellent Comfort Wand applicator. However, if your main concern is a serious spider problem, you may find the barrier's performance lacking, as the spiders don't seem deterred by simply crossing the treated area. It’s a good product overall, but manage your expectations when dealing specifically with arachnids.

Short term review…..Edit drop down to 3 stars
So I used this like last week to get rid of spiders by my window. They keep setting up shop there. I went back today and sprayed again, expecting them to be back. Because that’s the usual for when I spray some repellents. After it dries, their webs are back up. But it wasn’t even one spider there. And it was some big ones before(california big. Not Australia). So I didn’t fully spray. Just one area but I quickly realized no spiders so I stopped. So this is a short term review. I’m going to set a reminder in my phone to check it in 3 months. I know it is advertised to last longer. But I want to check it at 3 month intervals, to see if it’s still working. Of course if it rains, the experiment is over lol. So I’ll come back in 3 months for an update. Mid Edit: As of 09/10/23, there’s still no spiders. And there are no huge spiders around where I live. Like a tarantula, wolf, or huntsman. Not that I’ve seen at least. This is a spider repellent review. Not a flamethrower review lol. And it rained from the hurricane/tropical storm that passed recently. I guess it didn’t hit the area directly or it wasn’t enough to wash it away. So that’s good it lasted this long. I’ll come back near the end of October for one final update. But I’m already sold with it lasting over a month. 10/23/23 Final update. Still no spiders outside my window. So it works for at least 3 months, which is good for me. One thing, don’t spray it in high bug areas like outside trash cans. I sprayed my outside trash cans because I don’t like touching spider webs when taking out the trash. Next time I’ll just spray the handles or something. Because there were so many more flies in and around the trash after there were no spiders left around there to catch them. So just be mindful of that. AND, it didn’t repel the flies. So it worked for spiders, not for the house flies. Edit: 05/05/2024 I had no intentions of doing another edit. But I was so impressed I had to. I went out to spray my window again just now. And there were no spiders or other insects where I sprayed. No spider webs or anything. After rains, winds, time, and it’s living up to the claims so far of being long lasting defense. I just thought that was cool. This is the last update though. Because I sprayed it again even though it wasn’t needed. I was trying to see if a spider would come running out from where I couldn’t see it or something. lol nothing ran out. I wish it worked better for flies. But this is a must to keep handy if you deal with a lot of spiders. Oh. Side note. It hasn’t messed up my paint either. But this is a case by case basis. Do a spot check on your intended surface to test it first, if concerned. Ok. That’s all. Thank you for reading. Have a good day edit: June 1, 2024. I sprayed in the doorway because spiders kept going there. They would come every couple of weeks. I sprayed and within 2 days I saw 3 spiders right where I sprayed. Didn't phase them at all. The daddy long leg ones. Not sure why it works so well for the outside spiders and not for the long legs. But hey. If I had to choose which spiders I wanted to stay away, it's definitely the ones outside. still disappointed though.
