Do they indicate, like change color, that they need to be replaced?

I don’t think they change color. I think they last about 3 months… but have been the answer to foot odor among many orher treatments that have been tried. Good luck

Will it get rid of the smell for the car that is saturated with disgusting artificial air fresher fragrance?

Hi there, I don't think this is what you are looking for to help with your issue. The inserts are designed to go inside our GloveStix and StankStix and they absorb moisture and help deodorize but a much smaller area (like a shoe or a glove). Our Stix are designed to inhibit odor causing bacteria growth, not artificial air freshener. Sorry, good luck finding something to help with that, I cant stand those artificial smells either!

Can the replacement inserts be used on their own, without the sticks?

Hi Miguel, The actual sticks themselves (the plastic) are what have the antimicrobial properties in them. The Inserts will absorb moisture but It is a combination of absorbing the moisture and the antimicrobial properties working together (so using them as one unit) that make our stix work so well. Can you place the inserts in the oven to dry and then reuse?

Hi. No the inserts are not synthetic so they are not reusable. They will fill up with moisture and have to be thrown away. We worked really hard to make sure our product didn't contain any fake toxic ingredients. Everything is non toxic and non synthetic and chemical free.

Helps to significantly reduce the awful smell of used lacrosse gear! Note, you really need to start using these as soon as you get brand new gear. It helps reduce the smell of old gear but never really takes the odor away if you don't start from brand new

i bought the GloveStix last Christmas for my 2 boys that play lots of hockey and Lacrosse and i just loved them , they worked every well , gets them all dry and it gets rid of the stinky smell. i had to reorder some refills recently and just received them . Great costumer service . i highly recommend this product .
