Would the ear bud ends fit on an old cable? (is the mxcc connector the same as the old um20?)

I'm not sure but I don't think so. It took me a while to find the correct cable without paying a fortune.

Does this take a standard mmcx connection, or is this proprietary, and requires a westone specific connection similar to but not the same as mmcx?

It is not proprietary but I don't think it's MMCX. I kinda remember it being something else, and I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it was not MMCX. If you call Westone they will tell you exactly what you need. That's what I did when I got them.
