what kind of insulated connectors did you use to withstand the heat of the stove?

The make a connector that has no plastic part it's all metal.Just crimp and maybe soldier would help.

So one tab gets the live wire and one tab gets the neutral wire? Which one goes to which tab or does it matter

It doesn't matter which wire you use, but it's preferred to use the "hot-dark" wire. It's wired in series. Remove 1 wire from device, attach to thermostat, then run a wire from the thermostat to your device where you removed the wire previously

What size are the spade connectors?

Standard male terminals 1/32" thick, 1/4" wide on the switch. You need female connectors (suggest insulated) to wire up

What is the highest temperature this thermostat can handle? Is it rated to be used on surfaces that can reach 300 degF? 400 degF?

don't know. I,m using it on a wood burning stove with no problems if that helps.

Fan control

Worked great wiring into fan on fire place that was just a on and off switch. Makes it easy for when fireplace warms up turns on fan on when cools off shuts fan off

Works as designed

I used it elsewhere (not on a fireplace) and found that the "on" setting was 10 degrees to high. I liked the delay "off" setting and found another method for the "on" setting. With my changes it works good. If you were to use this item on a fireplace (as designed) it would work perfect.
