Why is there a hole in the metal plate hidden under the sticker?

When manufacturing the QuadHands WorkBench, we use that hole to securely hang the plate during the powder coating process. The hanger also provides the ground which causes the powder, charged with 85,000 volts, to properly adhere to the plate. Then it get's baked in a 400 degree industrial oven for 10 minutes giving it that durable, glossy coat.

Can this be used with a tourch for soldering jewelry?

The clips are metal and the only issue you should have is some discoloration from the heat. But if they do get ruined a replacement clip is available from many electrical supply houses. Do a web or Amazon search for "8-32 alligator clip" and you can find a replacement clip that will fit the goose-neck just fine. Bottom line, I think you will be fine but if something goes wrong you can easily find a clip to replace a damaged one.

What are the dimensions of the base? I see the box size, but the base must be smaller

The base is 9" x 6". The steel plate it is made from is 3/16" (not 1/8")

What is the largest diameter tube the alligator clamps can hold, and are the clamps available in a larger size if needed?

The clamps will hold something approximately 7/8 of an inch. We do not have larger clamps available at this time. The alligator clips do unscrew and can be replaced with another 8-32 threaded clamp.
