SCOOP DIAMETER ANSWERED!
This works really well, wish it lasted longer before breaking, but not enough to deduct a star. NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT PART OF THE REVIEW: DIAMETER OF THE SCOOPS lots of questions about the size of these. Specs size them based on the size of resulting cookies, Oxo website sizes them based on volume. And when a customer answers a question about the diameter, you can't tell if they're talking about the Small, Medium, or Large scoop because of how Amazon combines reviews. So I bought one and measured it for you: the LARGE scoop has a diameter of 2 inches. the MEDIUM scoop (probably) has a diameter of 1.5 inches. the SMALL scoop (probably) has a diameter of 1 inch. I say probably, because some specs listed at the Oxo website provide product dimensions of 9" x 3" x 2" for the large scoop. Well, the height is NOT 2", but the diameter is. So looking at the "height" of the other two on Oxo gives 1.5" and 1", which corresponds to measurements that customers give in the reviews (we just don't know which size scoop they are reviewing).

Sturdy scoop, larger than I thought
The scoop looks very nice and is well made. Itโs feels very high quality, and it doesnโt stick upon release. I included a picture next to one of the small Trader Joeโs candles for size comparison. Itโs a bit larger than the cookies I tend to make, so Iโll probably buy the smaller scoop for my cookies and keep this one for making things like meatballs. OXO is such a solid brand, and I will continue to purchase all their gadgets.

Cookie Scoops Saves Lives
At the same time, I purchased the small, medium and large scoops. I'm going to write about all three and then paste on each product review. On each of the scoops, they're well made and when used makes you think you're holding something of quality that has some girth to it. The padded handles are great and cleanup is a breeze. When using the scoops on dough, depending the how sticky the dough is, I may dip in water between scoops. The size differential between the three are perfect. When you squeeze the handle, it's not hard and I've not had it jump the gear yet. Washing is very easy...I rinse them and put them in the dishwasher. For the large scoop, the size is perfect for pancakes! I know you may not squeeze to get the batter out, but for consistancy, they produce the perfect size. I've also used this on ice cream. You may want to dip in water prior to scooping, but it cuts through hard ice cream well and give a great scoop. The medium is the workhorse. If you want any kind of consistancy with your cookies, you need this scoop. My worst cookie to try and keep the same is a sticky oatmeal cookie. Trying to dig out a bit of dough, roll it up, and then (as only my own personal OCD will allow), weigh it....yeah..there's a day making some of those cookies. NOW ROLLS IN THE MEDIUM "SCOOPS SAVES LIVES"!!! I know I'm being a bit dramatic here, but you don't know... I get PERFECT size each and every time. I don't have to spend what seems to be hours just washing my hands. I don't go through a bunch of latex gloves or have to do anything extra other than SCOOP - SQUEEZE - REPEAT. The small scoop. Admittedly, I've not done much with the small one. I've used it on a mellon and a watermellon. So I'm pretty sure it will surpise me one day. I hope this is the kind of review you're looking for. The drawbacks to these are they aren't made in the USA. If they were, I would have paid double to have this kind of scoop.

Spring broke on first use
I specifically ordered the OXO brand of these as I have many other OXO utensils and tools that work so well. For this cookie scoop, the spring broke the very first time I used it. Very disappointing. The scoop is now unusable. Yes, the batter was thick, but โฆ thatโs why I bought the OXO brand. I will be returning it but thatโs just an additional errand I now need to do. Very surprised the OXO brand wasnโt higher quality.

Broke within a few uses but Oxo has good customer service
I bought this cookie scoop and true enough for the other poor reviews, it broke within a few uses of gentle application. I couldn't return through Amazon since I bought it then stopped baking for a few months, but emailed their customer service via their website and sent them a video of the scooper malfunctioning. I was very quickly sent a new product after just one email and so far the cookie scooper has held up, but a little worried for future use. If it breaks again I'll edit this review, or if it stays intact. Time will tell.

HOW TO FIX COG SLIP PROBLEM
OXO Good Grips Large Cookie Scoop looked very promising as I like my cookies large and I'm frankly tired of using a spoon and my hands to get them to the right size. This actually worked perfectly and was well built and sturdy. Made a batch of Snicker-doodles and it worked great and I was so very pleased. Then a couple of days later made a batch of chocolate-chip cookies, worked great but then I did a batch of oatmeal-raisin cookies and the gear on the end slipped a couple of cogs. Made it impossible to get the cookie out of the gadget. I tried to get it to go back to the original spot on the gear but it is pretty much impossible to do without bending and taking apart the whole apparatus, or so I thought. I was so disappointed as I've always had fantastic service from every OXO Good Grips product and I have more than a few. Getting prepared to send it back when I noticed the OXO Good Grips customer service number so gave it a shout. The real person handling my call (I'm oh so tired of talking to computers) resolved the problem in a moment saying they had re-designed this product in the last few months and there were still some of the older design out there. She told me that she would immediately send me a replacement of the new design and I should not have that problem with this one. And, here is the kicker: IF YOU HAVE THE NEW DESIGN, TO RESET THE COG JUST PRESS THE VERY BOTTOM OF THE SHAFT AND YOU CAN PUT IT BACK TO START. Wow! Talked to a human and that human resolved my problem and I got my replacement in a couple of days. How extraordinary in this day and age. Props to OXO GG!.
