Would a 5 year old be too big for this?

Yes, I don't think a 5 year old would be entertained by this. I purchased it for my 2 year old niece and she loved it, however she doesn't play with it much as she is approaching 4 years old. It may be a bit small for a 5yro as well.

What are the dimensions to the storage bins?

I don't know the exact measurements. It is the perfect height for my two-year-old granddaughter to take care of her babies. And, she came keep all those baby clothes in the drawers.
