First Purchase Review: Zero Odor! Very Impressed! Great Product! #2 update with warning.
The product is very good and worked great on my tub drain so I am leaving the 5 stars. It was good that it was in a sealed extra plastic bag. This is definitely safer drain cleaner but all the ingredients are 'not' all non-toxic. For safety, do not open with a child or animal near by. Open it with all standard safety precautions and inside your sink away from utensils and food prep areas. The spilled liquid inside the plastic bag smeared the printing ink off the plastic bottle. I did not see the liquid inside the bag before I opened it and got a little on my fingers. This is my fault because I didn't put on gloves as I did with my first purchase. I washed my hands well with mild soap to be sure I got it all off. There was a little bit of heat on my hand but did not burn my skin. **Take your packaging up a notch and add an outer safety shrink seal wrap around a child safe cap with the inner seal over the bottle opening. Tape across the cap is not sufficient safety packaging. It leaked because the cap was a bit unscrewed and inner seal was gone. I really can't tell if the product dissolved the inner plastic seal or if I was sold an open used bottle, not sure. Because it is a good product that works and safer than other more toxic products I will buy it again. I washed off the bottle and will use it as is in my tub drain. For future orders if there is ever another leaked package I'll return it. I don't want to deal with the disposal of unused product. Below is my review from my first purchase... It works! It's a little pricey but compared to the expense of a plumber +++ In the past all others didn't do what this did. Be sure to follow instructions exactly. Definitely leave over night and boil a large pot of water (tea pot is not enough) and slowly pour down the drain. Voila! ++ If this is biodegradable and a safer drain cleaner why all the dangerous warnings. Doesn't read as safe to me. Not sure maybe a requirement?? Regardless use precautions as the instructions state. I wore gloves and eye protection. Cover any nearby appliances, dishes etc. or move away. The little inner silver plastic neck cover is hard to get off. I had to use a knife to puncture it and lift it off. That is okay for non toxic products but this could cause splatter in your face if not careful. It had a hard shrink wrap cover on the outer neck to prevent spills in shipment. ++

I Tried Them All. This One Worked!
My tub consistently ges clogged with hair. Over the years I've tried every drain cleaner you can imagine -- literally every one. Even used raw lye a few times. Nothing worked. Then I discovered this stuff on Bob Villa's site. His review says this is specifically for hair clogs and is the best. I doubted it would work, because as I said, I have literally tried everything. So I was more than skeptical. Plus, it's sort of pricey at twenty bucks a bottle (two uses). At the time I purchased this, the bottle with the two plastic hair grabbers was actually cheaper than the solo bottle so I bought that (it's the same price now). I didnt use the hair grabbers because they are sort of flimsy and the last thing I need is for it to get stuck and have a plastic strip clogging my drain along with the hair. Anyway, I meticulously followed directions and viola! the drain was cleared. After maybe a month I notice the drain was getting sluggish again and I found out why. My tub didnt have any hair catcher in the drain, just those wide holed circular things that do next to nothing for catching hair. So I removed it and put in a mushroom hair catcher you can buy on Amazon (buy the rubber ones, not the metal becauce they are way easier to clean). I went through the process again and haven't had an issue since. One caveat -- the instructions say to throw boiling water down the drain after the product sits in the drain roughly overnight. That's fine unless you have plastic pipes. Super hot water will temporarily expand your pipes at the joints and a little it of water will leak out. You won't notice it from your tub because it's not enough to seep thru your floor/ceiling. The only reason I know this is that we're renovating our kitchen which is directly under the upstairs bathroom and right now the ceiling is getting replaced so I can see directly up into the floor area of the bathroom. Putting boiling water down the drain upstairs caused maybe two tablespoons of water to drip down. I'd imagine if you use this stuff (or any other brand that says to add boiling water) frequently it could permanently mess up the joints in your pipes. But I'm not a plumber. Maybe just hot water from the tap is better/safer.

Works pretty good
I had my bathroom sink draining very slow. I used this and followed the directions. When I applied the first treatment iI felt like it did not work but then I gave the sink another treatment. After the second treatment, the water was going down but still slow. I had to go to work so I brought something else thinking that later that night I will use it to finish the job. However, when I got home later that day, the sink was working wonderfully. I guess it needed a bit more time to work. I will purchase again.

Works well!
I was surprised that this worked better than expected on shower/hair clogs! I used the overnight option and things were running smoothly. Once I did have to do two rounds of it, but Iโm impressed with this one.

Did not work!
Did not work. The bathroom sink is still clogged. It is not a clog caused by hair, because the sink was Already snaked. I wish I could receive a refund, but Had to pour all contents down the sink to unclog the sink.

Trading effectiveness for non-toxic/environmentally friendly
I've used this product on two separate occasions- once on a clogged shower drain in a condominium and once on my apartment's sink. Both instances had drains in pretty bad shape. Neither were totally clogged though. And in both instances the full bottle was required across two overnight applications and although the drains were not fully cleared they were dramatically improved. One important step which is easily missed is to pour hot water down the drain after letting the product work overnight. I did this only after using the full bottle and may have had better luck after each application instead. You just have to be careful with the temperature of the water not exceeding a PVC joint's specifications, which I've read as 175 degrees F have also seen 150 degrees thrown around too. If you don't have any plastic joints in your plumbing then I doubt this level of care is required. I debated knocking off a star for the product not being 100% effective and rather closer to 80%, but since it's environmentally friendly and non-toxic I'm good with a trade off. Heavy duty drain cleaners most likely present far better value for your $ but are also likely neither eco-friendly nor non-toxic. In a condominium I was concerned about using stronger stuff without board approval, and in my own apartment I was concerned about using stronger stuff because my bathroom is windowless and poorly ventilated. So in a way this is a niche product. I think if the price goes up any further I will knock off a star. Otherwise, this bottle is a solid choice if you properly follow the instructions and do not have a drain that is an utter disaster (fully clogged). If so, I would call a plumber instead.

It worked!
This drain product is amazing! When I moved into my apartment, the bathtub drain was so clogged that water would start pooling as soon as the faucet was turned on. To remedy this, I bought this product and poured half the bottle down the drain. It sat pooled in the bathtub for a half hour or longer but eventually went down. It is a thick liquid, as advertised. After about 8 hours, as directed for serious clogs, I boiled water on the stove and slowly poured it down the drain. The water pooled again, and I thought maybe this product wasn't working. After the water went down, I poured the other half of the bottle down the drain and let it do it's thing for 12 hours. I then poured hot water down the drain and it pooled after a bit but then went down pretty quickly. I've poured hot water down the drain several times in the last 24 hours and it is no longer pooling into the tub. The product worked! It took awhile but this stuff is not toxic like other products out there, so it's worth it to me. There is absolutely no smell at all and it does not leave any strange residue behind. I highly recommend! Just be sure to have patience with this stuff if used for severe clogs.

Packaging changed not for the better!
I have purchased this product at least 4 times and I like it a lot, it works very well. However, now the packaging is changed and the bottle is not see partially through, it is now opaque. That is not a good decision, since now you cannot see how much 50% of the bottle is to use it to the fill line. Did I get a defective bottle?
