4-Qt is perfect for making stove top popcorn
The 4-Quart saucepot with double handles is lightweight and perfect for making popcorn on the stove top which is how I remember my mother making popcorn for the family. With so many reports of microwave popcorn being unhealthy my doctor suggested stove top popcorn as a healthy snack without the chemicals so I went on a search to find a light weight cook pot that would allow me (a senior with arthritic hands) to be able to lift and shake the pot while cooking to distribute the kernels as they pop. I was pleased to find this lightweight Farberware Classic 4-Quart pot at a reasonable price. It performs well and brings back a little nostalgia while making stove top popcorn.

Big And Long Term Fan Of Farberware Pots And Pans!
I just bought this set to replace one I bought in the early 1970's that I had to leave behind in a move. In addition to this set I also bought a couple of extra 3 quart sauce pans because they are so handy to have extras of. One thing I want to mention is that with time, going through the dishwasher had a bad effect on the handle material of the original set. They turned dull and rough so if that would bother you, you might want to hand wash just in case this newer version is still made using the same handle material. I will write to Farberware and ask them about this. Now let's talk about the design changes made to the bottoms over the years: Here, my 1970's ones were made with a solid layer of aluminum. With many trips through the dishwasher this degraded badly but they were still in use when I left them behind in my move this year. Anything printed into the aluminum had long since dissolved though. About maybe 25 years ago I bought a couple of extra 3 quart saucepans (such a handy size and I recommend you do the same!). The bottoms on these were finished with about an 1/8" raised laminated layer of shiny (stainless?) steel over the aluminum (the edge of which was slightly exposed). Over time one of these left my household in a divorce but the remaining one developed a gap between the steel and the aluminum on one side of the edge. Not sure if this was from the dishwasher/aluminum thing and can only speak for the single pan. This latest set has a gorgeous steel bottom design with no visible aluminum. I think there is still an aluminum layer in there though. The steel smoothly curves up to meet the body of the pan with a thin line around the edge. Lovely! Even the two included non-stick skillets have these bottoms. More about the skillets is that they are deeper and have more steeply sloped sides than I expected or am used to. The depth is about 2" and the rims are the 8" and 10" but the inside bottoms are maybe 2" less than this. The profile of the bottoms is very curved. So they will be better for saucier dishes but not so great for flipping pancakes. They are beautiful to look at. I know that non-stick has fallen out of favor but I still like it, am aware there are chemicals involved, that care must be taken with keeping the temperatures low, and have no problem with adding a little cooking oil. I am gentle with NS and my last (inexpensive) ones were still in use after 25 + years.

Solid Performance, Though Packaging was Unexpected
I purchased the Farberware Classic Stainless Series 2-Quart Covered Double Boiler and, functionally, it is exactly what I was looking for. Performance & Quality The pot itself is very nice. It feels sturdy, looks classic, and works exactly as it should. The stainless steel heats evenly, and the 2-quart size is perfect for melting chocolate, making custards, or preparing delicate sauces without scorching them. It’s a reliable addition to the kitchen that feels like it will last a long time. Packaging Observations The only downside was the way it arrived. Instead of the standard Farberware retail box, the double boiler was simply placed in a plastic bag and then inside a standard Amazon shipping box. It felt a bit "weird" and led me to suspect it might have been a previous return rather than a brand-new retail unit. Pros: High-quality stainless steel construction. Works perfectly for delicate cooking tasks. Classic design that matches other Farberware pieces. Cons: Disappointing packaging (arrived in a plastic bag rather than a box). Bottom Line: If you can get past the odd packaging, the product itself is excellent and does its job perfectly.

An excellent buy - and not made in China!
OK - so it was made in Thailand - but not China! Maybe I just got lucky on this one production lot? As for the pan, it's truly a dandy. The bottom is flat enough to work perfectly on my ceramic top stove which is unusual for a pan this inexpensive. Actually, it's a bit unusual for expensive pans also. I bought a very expensive set of 7 ply pans last year through Amazon and this inexpensive SS pan with the bonded aluminum bottom works every bit as well, if not better. It is heavy enough to be stable on the stove but not so heavy that this old lady has problems picking it up when it is full of soup or whatever. The reason I bought this pan is that the "3 qt. saucepan" which came with the expensive set is shaped more like what I would call a chicken fryer and is most definitely NOT a sauce pan. The expensive pans do not have rolled top edges and are impossible to pour out of even when mostly empty. This Farberware Classic pan does have rolled edges and after using a ladle to empty the soup or tea down to about half a pot I can actually pour the rest out without it running down the sides of the pan and all over the counter! I also like the way the top fits inside of the pan, preventing the condensation on the inside of the lid from running every which way when you pick it up (if you handle it properly). As with all other stainless steel pans I've ever owned, there will be white spots on the bottom after washing it if you have cooked quantities of onions and/or dried beans (even previously cooked dried beans). This is taken care of easily and quickly by putting 1/2 cup white vinegar plus 1 1/2 cups water in the pan, covering it, bringing it to a boil and then removing it from the burner and letting it sit for at least 5 minutes. Bingo: shiny pan! Please do not write a comment telling me to use Barkeepers Friend to clean the inside of my pans. It takes some of the metal off which is evident from how black the rag gets! This is OK for my stainless steel sink, but I prefer to keep my pans as close to their original thickness as possible! I hope this pan will last a very long time and that there will be no problems with the handle - which seems to be the only issue other reviewers have repeatedly mentioned. I also wish I had saved at least a couple hundred dollars and bought a complete set of the Farberware Classic pans last year. As other reviewers have stated: It would be extremely helpful to list the country where products are manufactured. I definitely would have gone for the Farberware last year if I had known they are not made in China. P.S. The booklet which came with the pan reminded us that stainless steel DOES scratch, so don't plan to use sharp edged metal utensils.
