ARB 170112 Differential Axle Breather

An excellent kit from the legendary Australian brand. I used it to vent all the breathers of my Land Cruiser 155 into the engine bay. In the photo from left to right: rear axle breather, automatic transmission breather, two transfer case breathers, and front axle breather. I had to purchase an 8mm Tube OD metric thread Push To Connect Tube Fitting for the rear axle. Also, two 90-degree 8mm Tube OD X 8mm Tube Stem Plug-In Elbow Pneumatic Air Push Fit Lock Fittings for the automatic transmission and front axle. Additionally, two 90-degree 4mm Tube OD X 4mm Tube Stem Plug-In Elbow Pneumatic Air Push Fit Lock Fittings for the transfer case, and a 3ft Polyurethane Pneumatic Hose (4mm OD, 2.5mm ID). To merge the two transfer case outputs into a single 8mm line, I needed one Y-shaped Reducer Push to Connect Fitting (5/16 Inch Tube OD x 2х 5/32 Inch OD). Optionally, an Insulation Braid Sleeve can be bought to protect against heat and chafing. The included hose was just the right length—I only had about 8 inches left over. The automatic transmission and transfer case breathers are located at the bottom rear of the engine, right above the transmission, and are snapped into the slots of a plastic clip. They are hard to spot and remove. You will need a flashlight to find them. It is a bit tricky, but once located, you can reach up by hand and unclip them from the slots one by one by feel, then push them downward. From underneath, once you get under the car, you can grab the unclipped breathers and install the 90-degree fittings to extend the lines up into the engine bay. After assembly, it is highly recommended to wrap the plastic fittings with silicone tape for heat protection, and shield at least this short upward section using a braided silicone sleeve. If done carefully, you can snap everything back into the original clip. The front axle breather is located between the engine and the fuse box quite high up, but I still routed it to the common location. It is highly recommended to secure the filter cap with plastic zip ties. It fits quite tightly, but this will help prevent losing it during periodic engine washes or if the plastic degrades and becomes brittle over time. Highly recommended for peace of mind when off-roading !

If you go offroad and have to traverse water crossings, this is a must have. It allows re-routing the differential breather from the top of rear diff to anywhere in the engine bay. Comes with very long hose, so can fit truck of any size. This will save your rear diff by not allowing water to be sucked in if diff is hot and water is cold.
