Will this only work for bass guitar? how about acoustic guitar?

Not sure about the Planet Waves Bass Pro-Winder. It may be a little too large to fit on a standard guitar machine heads. I purchased Planet Waves Pro-Winder/Cutter back a couple of weeks ago and it works on all of my guitars. I use it on my Harmony and Martin Acoustic guitars. I also use it on my 1973 Les Paul Custom as well as my Epiphone ES-335 and SG. I would recommend the PW Pro-Winder/cutter, if you only need to tune standard guitars.

Is it suitable for a double bass?

Most string basses have machines that are larger than what this will accommodate, so no, it will most likely not work.

Will the Bass Pro-Winder truly cut the big strings? Like a .130 or .135 gauge "B" string or even larger?

YES, it will, I tried it with bass strings and it did the job well

What is the little hole at the end of the handle for?

It is used on a slotted neck guitar while changing strings. helps hold the string to get it into the hole in the peg.
