This Has Renewed My Interest In Cooking
I cannot say enough good things about the Ninja IG651 Foodi Smart XL Pro 7-in-1 Indoor Grill/Griddle Combo. This little gadget has given me a renewed love of cooking. About 3 years ago I purchased a Blackstone Flat Top Griddle, Electric Smoker, and an Oklahoma Joe's Longhorn Combo (offset smoker, charcoal grill, propane grill, all with a side burner too). I liked my outdoor kitchen but soon realized I wasn't using them often as I thought I would due to extreme hot and cold weather temps and the hassle of cleaning up. This is what led to my purchase of the Ninja OG701 7-in-1 Outdoor Electric Grill & Smoker. I enjoyed it so much I decided to buy the Ninja Foodi for indoor cooking. I've had the Ninja Foodi XL 7-in-1 for 2 ½ weeks and used the griddle 3 times, air crisp option 2 times, grill 4 times and broil once. I consider myself to be a good cook. My cooking expertise leans toward Thai, Mexican, and Indian cuisines. However, I tend to get in a hurry when frying over easy eggs and break the yolks. Plus I gave up cooking steaks years ago because I hardly ever can get them Medium Rare. Everything I have made on the Foodi has turned out perfectly. Grilled Salmon and Ribeye Steak were restaurant quality. The slipperiness of the griddle plate makes over easy eggs a breeze with in tact runny yolks. All pancakes were evenly cooked at the same time regardless of where they were on the griddle. Air Crisp zucchini fries and eggplant slices were delightfully crunchy and tasty. The baked (then broiled) meatloaf was slightly crispy on the outside yet moist on the inside. Baked skinless chicken thighs were done to perfection and very juicy. The temperature probe is fairly accurate, though my Thermapen has always been spot on so I tend to use that when cooking something super fussy. When you set a temp and insert the probe, the Ninja shuts off as soon as the programmed temp is reached. It then reminds you to let the food rest. After cooking, comes clean up. Nothing could be easier than cleaning the Ninja Foodi. The grill, griddle, and air crisp basket come clean with a sprayer faucet. Seriously, no wiping or scrubbing - a strong spray removes everything within 15 to 20 seconds. Then a quick wipe with a soapy sponge or dishcloth gets rid of any residual greasiness. I see no reason why I'd run them through the dishwasher. I also remove the splatter screen and wipe both sides with a soapy sponge then rinse under the sprayer - it still looks brand new. The only critique I have is that the included recipe pamphlet seems to have incorrect cook times on many recipes. I've seen other reviews stating the same thing…cook times are too long. I'd suggest always using an instant read thermometer or probe for greater accuracy when cooking. All in all, I'd strongly suggest getting a Ninja grill, or get two like I did.

A big step up from even the previous model
I have owned the previous top-of-line grill model - the FG551 - for over a year, and that device transformed how I cook more than any other piece of kitchen equipment I've ever come across. It's just so easy to get perfectly consistent results when cooking meats, and when you're done, you can just toss the grate, pan, and screen straight into the dishwasher. It's not a charcoal/hardwood grill but you can get plenty of flavor with rubs and marinades. I stumbled upon this new model on Amazon while looking for a replacement lower pan for my FG551, as I'd used and washed the one that came with it almost every day for a year and it was starting to crack at the corners (still usable though). The big difference is that this new one does not rely solely on heat generated by the air fryer element at the top - the grill grate itself has an integral heating element, and when you install it onto the base, it makes electrical connections with two contacts that supply the current during cooking. I bought one immediately, and it has not disappointed! Compared to the previous model, unsurprisingly, this one cooks faster, which solves a major problem when cooking thicker cuts of meat. Previously, if I were cooking really thick steaks, I wanted to use higher temps to get better browning but couldn't do so because heating by air alone is just too slow. The grill grate is a fairly massive piece of cast iron, and the preheat does get it up to temperature so you can get grill marks/sear, but it can't retain that heat very long because again, air isn't an efficient medium to transfer heat from the air fryer heating element into the grate to keep it hot. So if I ran it on high (500F) like the manual recommends, I would get a crunchy, charred shell around a rare steak; the solution was to reduce temps as far as low (400F), depending on the steak, but the results were never as good as with thinner cuts. This new unit does not suffer that problem because the grate itself is heated from below, and I can now cook everything at higher temps across the board because they cook so much faster, even for really thick cuts or when using marinades that would have burned on the old model. Clean up is similar to the previous model, but you have one less piece to throw in the dishwasher - the heated grill grate replaces a roasting pan and a separate grate that sits inside it. The only issue I have with this new design is that the aluminum grate is not coated in any way on the bottom, leaving an exposed aluminum surface; anyone who has ever put a raw aluminum pan in the dishwasher knows that it will come out with a grey/black oxide layer on the surface, which is not toxic or harmful in any way, but is annoying because it gets on everything it touches. I just hold the grate by the edges, avoiding the bottom surface, and only ever handle it to transfer between the grill and the dishwasher that resides directly below it. Once installed in the base, that surface is not exposed in any way so nothing will come in contact with it. Honestly, small price to pay for how well this device works. Very happy with this new model, and I have retired the old one, which served me well. These are the class of the field when it comes to an indoor grill, and they are great air fryers too. I don't really use griddles so I can't comment on that part, but it is a pretty slick feature on top of everything else this thing can do.

Buy the thing
Im not a paid reviewer though I should with how much I spend between ninja and Amazon. Anyway, youre probably reading through these in a limbo on whether or not to spend this much money on something you can buy cheaper but for outside. Wrong! I have a $900 Blackstone combo and flat top air fryer combo but this little bad boy....its in a class of its own and much preferred over my outdoor grills. Is it smaller? Yes. But does it consistently put out perfect chicken, steak, chops on and on? Yes!!! Easy clean up? YES! You will not regret this buy. Thank me later. My free cooking lesson is to start cooking on a lower temp than your book suggest amd go from them. Easier to heat up a grill versus lower the temp mid cook.

Worth the money
Use it all the time. Super simple to get used to. Not too big easy to clean. Haven’t used the dehydrator yet, have to wait till husband makes jerky so I’ll update the review when we do. So far worth the money!

Ninja IG651 Foodi Smart XL Pro 7-in-1 Indoor Grill/Griddle
This is the 2nd Ninja grill I've owned. The first one was great. I loved the way it cooked meat, especially chicken. It was done to perfection and quick. It still wasn't the same as grilling outdoors but it was 100% better than using the oven. And then it became difficult to clean. The grill non-stick finish started chipping off and there was baked on residue that just wasn't coming off. And the lid was impossible, you couldn't get in there to clean out the accumulated grease. It began to almost smoke because of the accumulation. So between everything else I trashed it. In the meantime I tried several other brands and none of them cooked/grilled quite the same. So in a moment of weakness I ordered the Ninja IG651 Foodi Smart XL Pro 7-in-1 Indoor Grill/Griddle. The grill is different than the first one. The non-stick finish seems to be better and clean-up is much easier. The grill (not the lid) is dishwasher safe but it's just as easy to clean by hand. The lid is easier to clean compared with the first one. I'm able to wipe the inside which I couldn't do on the first one. You can cook with the lid open on this model and the heat seems to be very even and maintains the heat even with the lid open. It does have a smart thermometer but I don't cook with it often. You don't know how long something will cook, it only goes by temperature. So you don't know if that chicken breast will take 10 minutes or 30, it's however long it takes for it to reach a certain internal temperature. I have used it when I've spatchcocked a chicken but it's still a guess whether it'll take an hour or longer. It can be a challenge to get all the sides done when the chicken is done. So most times it's easier just to use the grill method and cook by time. It has 7 functions (Grill, BBQ Griddle, Air Crisp, Roast, Bake, Broil and Dehydrate) but I'm happy with just using the grill function. At this writing I've only had it for about a month and use it 1-2 times each week. Still not the same as grilling outdoors but it does a really great job grilling and that's what I'm after.

Quality product giving Great Results
I purchased the Ninja IG651 Foodi Smart XL Pro 7-in-1 Indoor Grill/Griddle Combo from Amazon about 6 months ago. It is a great product and very well designed and constructed. I have used the air fryer mostly up to now to prepare frozen breaded fish and chicken as well as frozen egg rolls. The results are fantastic. The outsides are crisp, but the insides are not dried out. There have been no smoking issues while using the air fryer. Since the fryer basket lifts out, it is relatively easy to clean. Because the basket has a grove to catch grease, I need to find a soft brush to use to assist in cleaning it. I haven't perfected the desired results for French fries yet. There are other cooking modes such as the grill and griddle that I will use shortly. If I had it to do over, I would buy this same model because it should serve most of my cooking needs.

Excellent multi-function cooking appliance.
I have begun eating ketovore and am consuming primarily meat, especially beef. I like my steaks rare and burgers medium rare, but both with a good sear. Complicate those cooking goals with an amazing amount of rain, often at dinner time, and outdoor grilling is usually not possible. I can get a good sear in a hot cast iron pan, but there is a lot of spatter and fine grease spray. The air fryer contains most of the spray but it's hard to judge internal temps and monitor overall searing. Enter the Ninja XL PRO GRILL. So far I have seared sirloin steaks that had been cooked to a 129 degree temp (sous vide) and refrigerated. Amazing sear and great flavor, without using the included thermometer. Next were 2 packs of brats on the grill pan. The ten big brats just fit on the pan with really no space between them. Great grill marks and excellent internal cooking in less time than partially steaming in a skillet followed by frying to finish cooking and to brown the exterior. Well, slightly burn the exteriors while getting the inside to temp. That was not a problem in the Ninja. Took less time, and with the lid closed no greasy spatter. Plus the brats were far juicier than cooked in skillet. I am beyond impressed with this multi-function appliance. It is about 17.5" wide so it's not small, but not overly large either. It has 7 different functions and will most likely be used for the bulk of my upcoming cooking adventures. Sausage patties on the included griddle this morning and keto chicken tenders next! Look at this product on Amazon and check out their video reviews as well as YouTube reviews and demos of some cooking techniques. While you would expect a grill from the name it can also roast, bake as well as several other cooking functions. The Ninja XL Pro 7-in-1 grill is well worth the money and counter space.

A Versatile Indoor Powerhouse Grill!
The Ninja Foodi Smart XL Pro is a compelling option for anyone craving the char and flavor of grilling year-round, regardless of weather. This 7-in-1 appliance boasts a large cooking surface and a range of functions, aiming to be more than just a grill. After several years of testing, here's my take: The Pros: • XL Cooking Surface: The "XL" designation is no joke. This grill offers ample space to cook for a family of four or even larger gatherings. You can easily fit multiple burgers, steaks, or even a whole chicken. • Versatile Functionality: Beyond grilling, it offers air frying, baking, roasting, broiling, dehydrating, and even a flat griddle option. This versatility truly makes it a multi-purpose appliance, potentially replacing several single-use gadgets. The probe/smart thermometer with metal braided wire is especially cool when grilling a steak! No more guessing, as it tells you the exact temp of the steak and when to flip it! • Smart Cook System: The built-in smart thermometer and pre-programmed settings take the guesswork out of cooking. It monitors the internal temperature and alerts you when your food is cooked to your desired level. This is a game-changer, especially for those less confident in their grilling skills. • Excellent Sear: The grill grates deliver impressive sear marks and a genuinely grilled flavor. • Easy Cleanup: The removable grill grates and grease tray are dishwasher safe, making cleanup a breeze. • Reduced Smoke: While not entirely smokeless, the design does a decent job of minimizing smoke compared to traditional outdoor grilling. You do notice a tab bit, but nothing that would set-off your smoke detector. The Cons: • Size: The "XL" size, while a benefit for cooking capacity, also means this appliance takes up a significant amount of counter space. • Price: It's a premium appliance with a premium price tag. Do you really need it.. yes you do. • Learning Curve: While the smart features are helpful, there's still a bit of a learning curve to mastering all the different functions and settings. Read the manual thoroughly and you'll be ready to go quick! If you have the counter space and budget, this is definitely worth considering.

The grill plate is sloped a bit and very, very non sticky.
Used it a few times. The grill function with the lid open is very handy when adding cowboy butter to your steaks. Gets hot enough to put nice grill marks on it. Griddle fits over the grate and has ridges that lift it up so it doesn't slope as much. This model can use the bottom heater and upper to cook faster.

Recomended
Great product, I bought two—one for myself and another as a gift. I use it almost every day. It’s important to clean it after each use with fatty meats, which helps keep it in good condition. Highly recommended!
