More smoke than maple
Powerful pecan wood smoked flavor, if you taste it alone its strong, I was expecting subtle. Wow! Not for traditional use on pancakes or waffles, but works wonderfully for marinating, glaze on ham, or in other recipes where you would want a sweet smokey maple. Use this sparingly! If smoke is what you need, this is it for sure. Takes some getting used to, very different than the ordinary. Still good, all natural flavors, you can get creative with it, like chicken and waffles, dip bacon in it, french toast, sausage links, or anything where ordinary won't do.Update: company sent a replacement bottle plus other flavor. Wowed by their customer service and didn't even have to contact them about it, they did it on their own because of this review. Rating bumped up to 5.

Too Strong!
I purchased this syrup as a gift for my husband who dabbles in smoking meat as a hobby. We were planning to use this on waffles and pancakes and expected a sweet maple flavor with moderate smoke overtones. Unfortunately the product is INTENSELY smokey in both flavor and smell. The smoke flavor overwhelms all other flavors. Further complicating the issue is that the smoke flavor is not that traditionally appetizing flavor that you smell when meat is on the smoker. It's like a malfunctioning appliance kind of smoke flavor....very chemically and unnatural. I had high hopes for this product, but it is not for us. On the bright side, the packaging is really classy and high quality.

Oh man, oh man, oh man...........
This is my new favorite thing. The rum flavor is definitely there but not overwhelming. The taste of maple isn't overwhelming either. It's just a lovely, subtle blend of both. I was so excited by the flavor when I first opened it that I brought it to work for me tea and so all of my co-workers could sample it. Everyone was wowed. Seriously. Good. Stuff. !!!

Best Syrup EVER!!
I purchased this for my 26 yr old son because 1. He's loved syrup since he was born so it was kind of a Mom thing 2. I was out of XMas gift ideas. 3. The bottle is super cool. I had no ideas it would be such an awesome gift!! This is amazing syrup!! I am going to send this to so many people next year. I am ordering some for myself and I cannot wait to cook with it. I have a friend who is a serious baker and I'm getting her some of the whiskey infused syrup because I think she will love creating recipes with it!!

This was a surprise
Prior to purchasing this Sugarmaker's Cut by Runamok, I had been buying the Canadian Maple from Escuminac - which is excellent. That maple syrup made me a believer, and forever changed my understanding of what makes a good maple syrup. So - after purchasing that brand for a few years, I decided to see what Vermont's maple scene looked like.I purchased this Sugarmaker's Cut and the Cinnamon-Vanilla Infused flavor.Wow - I was really surprised by the exceptional taste and overall quality of these syrups! In particular, the Sugarmaker's Cut really blew my family and I away.Really good, pure flavors, sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. A little goes a long way. From the packaging, bottle and presentation - this is a top-notch maple, and one I will continue to buy again and again. My only gripe - it's quite expensive at around $19 for a 12.7 oz bottle.I had hoped it would be around the same price (or even slightly less) than the high-quality Canadian imports, being this is a domestic product.Sadly - it is MORE expensive than the Canadian maples. That being said - the old adage "You get what you pay for" holds true - as this is a very premium product. If you like your maple syrups flavorful and pure - you can't do much better than what Runamok is producing. You can get very very good Canadian maple syrups - but if you want to try something unique, Runamok offers many "infused" maple blends, from bourbon barrel aged, to cinnamon, vanilla, etc - they have you covered. For me - I'll stick with the Sugarmaker's Cut - as I prefer maple syrup to be pure and simple, but flavorful. This hits on all points. If you can get past the high price of entry - this is well worth your time.

Tastes like caramel. Not maple
I just don't understand. I had another, well reviewed brand in my cart, but kept seeing comments regarding this particular bottle. So I switched. Why doesn't maple syrup taste like maple syrup?? Everything we try, tastes like caramel flavored water syrup. We had a bottle of "pure" from our local, not cheap grocery store, a bottle from Sams club, and this. After tasting this, I wondered if its me. So I put an ounce of each in a glasses, put a number corresponding to each bottle on bottom, and my wife, son and I did a blind taste test. There was almost no difference between the 3. The only distinguishable difference that only i detected, was the faintest, and I mean faintest note of maple flavor. They were all caramel flavored whatever syrup. But the 2 local were significantly cheaper. U don't always get what u pay for
