Excellent movie. Stellar performances by all cast members. Robert Shaw, Edward Fox. Carl Weathers, and a young Harrison Ford were especially convincing. Richard Kiel, who played Jaws in Moonraker and The Spy Who Loved Me, was also good in his role. Despite what another reviewer wrote, the movie did not "get it wrong." The Yugoslav Partisans was the Communist-led resistance to the Axis powers, mainly Germany, in occupied Yugoslavia during World War II. The Chetnik Detachments of the Yugoslav Army was a complicated movement. Although they were supposed to be an anti-Axis group on the side of the Allies, their resistance activities were marginal. After 1941 they adopted a policy of collaboration with the occupying forces for most of the war. Their main thrust was conducting guerrilla warfare against the Yugoslav Partisans and the non-Serbian population of Yugoslavia. Their goal was ethnic exclusivity. Their methods of torture and murder were horrific. In the movie Drazak, Richard Kiel's character, is a Chetnik pretending to a Partisan. He calls Weaver (Carl Weather's character) "Blackie" and acts as though he's going to skin Weaver to remove the black. This was an act real Chetniks might have done in their quest for ethnic cleansing. Their war crimes were widespread and brutal. Since tomorrow is the Fourth of July, I would like to say thank you to all our veterans--men, women, young, and old--for serving our country so admirably. You are all heroes to me.

The writers must have hit the cliche aisle during a big sale, because every off-the-shelf situation they could fit into the allotted time has been jammed in there, and many with a very poor fit. The actors--all of them--looked like they were sleep-walking through their parts. But who could blame them? The overall premise may be feasible, but the script writers didn't come within shouting distance of doing it justice.

Great movie and just as smart and intense as the Guns of Nazarene. It even had a big "a hah" moment about betrayal, just like The Guns of Nazarene. Harrison Ford was fantastic in this movie at a time when his career lacked momentum. Glad I saw this film recently for the first time.

Good movie, accomplished, well know cast. Good plot and good acting. I don't care about the Chetniks? it has very little to do with the movie.Harrison Ford in an early performance along with Robert Shaw and Edward Fox. I recommend it and enjoyed watching it again.

Robert Shaw is in an amusing mode. The plot is goofy to modern tastes but it is yet a good romp worthy of any mood, given the time is available. The premise can be taken generously or less so. Otherwise, though you may not be viewing a "classic," at the same time you'll likely enjoy yourself or, if less interested, lack any regret over the time spent watching.Overall, just click and get into the fine score and genre.

A plot that evolves naturally and keeps you interested, good action, beautiful scenery. A great movie for it's time.

Had never heard of this film before. Lots of top names before they made it big. Very enjoyable watch, although a little slow at times.

Force 10 From Navarone is a guilty pleasure. It has always been unfavourably compared to it`s classic predecessor The Guns of Navarone. However, in my opinion there is much to enjoy and admire in this film. I have always liked this film since I viewed it at my local Odeon back in the 70s. I have had the DVD for many years and have been hoping a Blu-ray would be released in the UK. This version is an official Italian release from Sony. Naturally the packaging is in Italian but this is not an issue for me as it`s the film that`s important. The print used for this release is a UK English language version and it is very straightforward to select the English soundtrack. There are no extras on the disc but the picture quality is a step up from the DVD. Hopefully a special edition will be made available someday but until then this release will do nicely. The Blu-ray was dispatched from Switzerland and arrived in 4 days from placing my order.

Der Film beginnt mit den Schlussszenen des Klassikers „Die Kanonen von Navarone“ in dem die Kanonen explodieren und Major Mallory (Robert Shaw) sowie Sergeant Miller (Edward Fox) sich auf einem Kriegsschiff befinden. Kaum zurück werden Mallory und Miller beauftragt, einen Spion auszuschalten. Beide werden einer Spezialeinheit (angeführt von Harrison Ford) zugeteilt, die eine wichtige Brücke sprengen sollen, was anfänglich zu Unstimmigkeiten führt...Der Film liegt als Kinofassung auf Blu-ray vor und hat eine Laufzeit von 118:35 Min, während auf die Langfassung (welche zwar kaum die Spannung anzieht, sondern eher einzelne Personen etwas näher beleuchtet sowie einig Szenenerweiterungen hat) verzichtet wurde.Bildtechnisch macht die Kinofassung einen guten Eindruck. Keinerlei Filmschmutz und Defekte, natürliche Farben und Schärfe sowie Kontrast leisten sich kaum Schwächen.Der Ton ist rauschfrei und klar verständlich.Außer diversen Untertitel verfügt diese Blu-ray über keinerlei Extras.Fazit: Gut aufgemacht ist der Film schon, erreicht jedoch nicht das Format des Klassikers.Bild.- und Tonqualität sind in Ordnung. Das Fehlen von jeglichen Extras incl. der Langfassung ist ein Armutszeugnis des Labels.

War ja auch sehr überrascht das auf einmal Apollo Creed im Film auftauchte für mich, eine Bereicherung der Alten Kriegsfilm Classiker. Und sogar der Beiser aus James Bond ist mit von der Partie, und Robert Shaw spielt auch mal wieder mit.Aber was mich sehr genervt hat wie dumm die Deutschen, Soldaten wieder dargestellt werden geht mal gar nicht und ist total unwürdig wenn man bedenkt wie schnell einige Gebiete eingenommen worden sind.Franco Nero ( Django ) spielt echt klasse seine Rolle als Verräter der Jugoslawischen Partisanen. Und man sieht wie die Chetniks an der Seite der Deutschen gekämpft haben. Für mich ein gut gemachter Anti Kriegsfilm der einen besonderen Platz in meiner Sammlung finden wird.

England 1942. Nach dem Einsatz auf der griechischen Insel Navarone sollen Major Mallory (Robert Shaw) und Sergeant Miller (Edward Fox) den Spion Nicolai töten, der offenbar inzwischen die jugoslawischen Partisanen infiltriert hat. Für den Weg nach Jugoslawien schließen sich beide der Sabotageeinheit Force 10 unter Führung von Lieutenant Barnsby (Harrison Ford) an, deren Aufgabe die Sprengung einer strategisch wichtigen Brücke ist. Als der nach einem Flugzeugabsturz ohnehin schon dezimierte Trupp in eine Falle der deutschen Besatzer gerät, scheint die Mission gescheitert ...Bond-Regisseur Guy Hamilton (*1922) stand für das 17 Jahre nach der Premiere des legendären Actionfilms THE GUNS FROM NAVARONE entstandene B-Picture ein Budget von 5 Millionen US-Dollar zur Verfügung. Die lose auf dem Roman GEHEIMKOMMANDO ZENICA basierende Handlung vermag durch zahlreiche unglaubwürdige Aktionen nicht wirklich zu überzeugen, wird aber durch zahlreiche gute Action-Szenen (insbesondere das spektakuläre Finale) ohnehin eher zur Nebensache.Die Blu-ray von SONY zeigt den Film in der ursprünglichen Kinofassung mit einer Laufzeit von 118 min. Die auf DVD 2005 veröffentlichte Langfassung mit einer um 8 min längeren Spieldauer enthielt zusätzlich einige eher unwichtige Szenen, die nur über deutsche Untertitel verfügten. Das ist durchaus verzichtbar. Allerdings kommt bei der Bildqualität der Blu-ray (nur geringfügig besser als die DVD) nur sehr selten HD-Feeling auf. Englischer Originalton sowie deutsche, französische und spanische Synchronfassung liegen jeweils in Mono vor. Der Film ist zwar in 15 Kapitel gegliedert, die allerdings wegen des eingesparten Kapitel-Auswahlmenüs nicht direkt anwählbar sind. Ebenso wie die DVD-Veröffentlichung enthält die Blu-ray keinerlei Extras, was für einen B-Film aus den 1970-er Jahren natürlich verständlich ist. Vom Konzept des Wendecovers hat sich Sony Pictures leider komplett verabschiedet. Weshalb allerdings ein mindertalentierter Praktikant das Cover entwerfen musste, bleibt ungeklärt. Das auf der VHS verwendete Original-Plakatmotiv wäre jedenfalls die deutlich bessere Wahl gewesen.Fazit: Drei Sterne für eine weitere Spar-Veröffentlichung aus dem Hause Sony. Wer die DVD bereits besitzt, kann diese getrost behalten.
