Light Mountain Henna Hair Color, Dark Brown Hair Dye 3-Pack, 4 Oz Ea

This brand is amazing. First of all, I have been using henna on my hair for the last 9 months or so once I noticed more than a few grays cropping up. I did not want to go to a box dye because I would be using chemicals for the foreseeable future. The first two brands of henna I tried end up being too red, too grainy, really hard to mix etc and it was not the best experience. I looked online for a while and decided on light mountain due to the glowing reviews. I can say I am really impressed. Mixing was easy and the consistency was smooth and much better (easier to wash out also) than the previous brands. I mixed it to a pudding consistency with distilled water and I let it cure for 10 minutes before applying and I left it on for 2 hours. WOW. The result is pure dark chocolate, no red at all. I am really impressed with this result, it looks like salon quality. Also, it covered up the old red from previous batches. It is almost a shade too dark right now but I think when it fades a bit it will be a perfect match to my natural color. The gray strands are a bit more copper brown, like a highlight, but it covered up the old and new growth perfectly. I like the fact that you get a pair of gloves in the box also, which was handy. I bought an 8 pack of shower caps at dollar tree and that worked out much better than the plastic wrap they give you, but I did put that cap over the shower cap for better coverage in the back. Overall I am really impressed with this brand/color and I won't be buying anything else. Don't be intimidated by henna, this brand takes all the guesswork out of the application and it is really easy. You get the perfect amount in each box, detailed instructions and the gloves. If you are worried about too much red, try this brand you won't be disappointed. UPDATE January 2019: I am still using this product and color because of all the henna I have tried it is the best. I only mix about 1/2 cup of powder for touch up's and just do my roots rather than my entire head. Every 3 or 4 applications I do my whole head again. I find that it gives me a richer brown if I mix it and then immediately apply it. I do not let cure anymore. I have even left it on overnight before and still a rich brown result that left me with super soft conditioned hair. Overall for the quality, results, versatility and price I will never buy another henna product.

It is great as it is non-toxic and does not cause hairloss like most synthetic hair dyes do to me. Peroxide accellerates graying and causes hair thinning/loss. I am glad that I found this organic clean henna that actually covers the grays. Most henna I have tried in the past were not pure and did not dye well. This one covers nearly 100% and lasts just as long as the permanent hair color. You just have to have the patience to practice the application technique, and keep ot on for 2-3 hours. I used to get a headache from the strong henna smell. Then, I tried taking one tablet of allergy medicine couple hours prior to application as well as wear a mask during application. This prevents headaches due to my allergic reaction to henna. Make sure to apply after washing your hair with a cleansing shampoo and do not apply a conditioner prior to henna. Apply the conditioner after you wash off the henna for softer hair. Conditioners contain oil and other chemicals that prevent full penetration of the henna. I also noticed that sulfate-free organic shampoos help to make the color last longer. I hope this information helps.

Okay- where to start with this product! I bought this because I refuse to use anything other than an organic product to dye my hair. If you are looking into this product I am sure you are already aware of the chemicals in regular hair dyes. Is this easy to use like other chemical non-organic hair dye? Absolutely not!!! I followed the directions and made sure to not use any metal that would contaminate the color outcome. My hair came out looking exactly as I wanted it to. I have medium brown hair with quite a few greys. This darkened my hair and covered most of the grey hair. It didn't cover all of it, but I think that was more my fault in not spreading it on all my hair appropriately. So yes the product works great, and I will continue to use it. However, lets address the MAJOR ISSUES!! First off, the smell. It smells like manure, spinach and very old pot. It is horrible! The smell did not go away for several days too. So, that's kinda gross. I have read other reviewers talk about adding spices and teas (instead of just plain water.) I plan on trying anything and everything next time to see if I can reduce or eliminate the smell. Secondly, you must be prepared for an epic mess. This is either too runny or too goopy. Finding the right texture to get it on your hair to spread evenly and it remain on your hair will take some experience! I have also read of other people using thickeners. I didn't try that and I might next time. I used a bowl and my hands (with about 10 pairs of plastic gloves.) I was in no way prepared for the mess that this created! My suggestion, is a tarp is a must, a helper would be excellent, and a few tools could be beneficial. I had no shirt on and no tarp and I got this stuff everywhere! I screamed for my husband to help clean up the mess about 10 times so that it wouldn't stain my counters or floors. It did stain my bra- but that doesn't bother me too much. Without his help, it would have been really bad! So for my next encounter I plan on having an old shirt on along with a hairdresser cape, a tarp draped everywhere that this stuff could possibly get, a hair dye bottle, combs, and hair dye brushes. I am hoping next time to tame the mess. I had separated my hair in about 10 sections and did each section and put my hair back in mini buns using all plastic clips. Then I put on a shower cap. The separated hair and shower cap worked last time and I will do the same next time. Thankfully the product didn't stain my skin on my face and what got on my neck came off pretty well. (Okay maybe not the well, but that's because this product bled for the first week. Again, I'm going to try something different next time. Normally I use organic shampoo and vinegar for conditioner. This product might require non-organic products to try to remove it. I think I might try a different product to try and get this stuff out of my hair! Every time I washed my hair it bled blue and dyed my neck blue. Not a true problem for me since I wore my hair down every day and never pulled it up (at least in public.) But it would be nice to not have a neck stain! The product at least did not get on my clothes, pillowcases, etc, so no true harm done. So why use this product? Well there isn't much to choose from in the realm of organic hair dye. I won't use chemical hair dye so it is either have grey hair or use this product. I am 31 and feeling kinda vain about the grey hair issue. So for me it is worth the hassle, but as I said I have plans for the next round and hopefully I will report back with more success. I used it about a month and a half ago and it still looks fantastic. So I don't expect to have to redo my hair for another month or so. Should you try this product? That is entirely up to you. My wife has been using henna to dye her hair for years (dark brown). It takes longer than traditional hair dye but she likes that it’s natural and says that her hair feels moisturized after dying with henna instead of dry like traditional hair dye. She used to buy henna guys dye, but she tried this and says it’s the same, much better value.

I recently purchased and used this product. I can honestly say that I never intend on using it again. I do like the color it produced, yet within a few days it began to fade. I do like that there are no harsh chemicals and that it is "natural." When you open the box you are given a bag of powder to mix with hot water and no metal is to come into contact with the product. Then as you mix the product with water a greenish hued substance is produced. It looks unappealing but I forged ahead. Next you notice a loose leaf tobacco scent that only gets more potent. Then you begin application. The mixture has small particles similar to sand. I found the application messy and difficult to cover all of my hair. Then you wait and try to rinse all of the "sand" out of your hair. Good luck! Finally you have your final color and SMELL! I could not get past the smell, it was awful. Since I bought a pack of 3 I now have 2 boxes of hair color with no intentions of using it again. Plus the box says conditioner...not sure what they exactly mean by that but it certainly doesn't make your hair softer and the instructions say to use baking soda or conditioner after rinsing. Sadly disappointed in this product.

I’ve been using the Dark Brown shade for a couple years now. My hair is very fine and curly, and I had severely damaged it using conventional color. I have a lot of gray hair on top, and the other reviews are correct in that the first application may not get the roots very dark. But if you use this once a month or so, the gray will gradually blend in. Your hair needs to be very clean and damp when you apply this product. It will take a minimum of two hours for the color to take, and you may need to spray a little water on during this time. This is some messy stuff to apply, and it has a very earthy smell to it. I don’t use shampoo when I rinse it out, but I do a deep condition after. DO NOT wash your hair for 48 hours after application, this product needs time to develop the color. I wish I had “before “ pictures of my hair, because the change has been dramatic. It’s long, shiny and healthy now, and I won’t use any other coloring product ever again!

High level take away: I would highly recommend this product to those wanting a deep chocolate brown, rich glossy color without the use of a plastic bottle filled with chemicals. This beats Lush's henna out of the water, no competition. Time and patience is a virtue with henna. Yes the process takes 4hours, but you're coloring your hair with plants! Mother Nature takes time :) My process: I boil water to make a concentrated black tea using 8-10 bags of black tea with 12oz. water, steep for 10 min. Which the tea is still hot I strain the bags, and slowly add to my henna powder in a rubber mixing bowl with a silicone spatula. I don't recommend adding egg, yogurt or essential oils because it messes with the consistency of the henna 'mud'. I section my hair using elastic hairbands and using rubber gloves I apply the 'mud' from back to front, root to tip making sure my whole head is saturated. I have thick hair below my shoulders and usually require a whole bag if not 1 1/4th bag of henna to cover all. I cover the henna on my head with an old long sleeved shirt and carefully do chores/ work indoors during the 4hours required for this process. I then rinse in the bathtub- this is extremely messy and if care is not taken you will get a swamp in your tub. Lastly I apply a biotin hair mask to my hair for 20 min and rinse until the water is clear. Do not shampoo your hair for at least 48hours while the henna is developing. Washing before can result in the color not fully treating and prematurely rinsing out. I repeat this coloring process every 7-8 weeks once my dark blonde roots and grays start to peek though. General cons of using henna, for anyone new to the henna process: if you plan on chemically coloring your hair or want the option to quickly change your color, henna is not for you. Brown henna = applying indigo + henna to your hair which have blue/ yellow and orange tones, and any type of chemical color is more likely to not take effect or come out with unpredictable outcomes if you apply on henna colored hair. The more applications of henna result in more layers of the coating to the hair cuticle making it harder to penetrate with bleach and color. Enjoy!

First time using henna and I was a little hesitant, but this product was perfect. I spent a lot of time reading up online about tips, but really, all you need is the little booklet in this pack! Don't overthink it too much. Just know it'll take some time, it has a very earthy (aka not super pleasant..) smell, and do NOT use any metal utensils when mixing it up or applying it! But the result is so worth it. The color is beautiful and it makes my hair so silky. I'm obsessed. I have now used it twice over a few months and I will never use another product to color my hair again.
