Bandai Macross HI-METAL R VF-1J Valkyrie Hikaru Ichijyou Model

A nice comfortable size and affordable fully transforming Macross (or Robotech) Valkyrie. The Bandai Hi-Metal R line is proving to be a wonderful thing for fans of the more modern "real robots". Not quite as over the top and pricey super toys the way the Soul of Chogokin line is, nor quite as small or poseable as the Super Robot Chogokin Hi-Metal R takes over for the Soul Spec line and delivers nicely. This one is Hikaru Ichigo's (Rick Hunter for the Robotech fans) VF-1J Valk. The one he starts off with and flies for the first half of the show. White with red markings. The figure is a delight. It is about half the size of the classic Yamato/Arcadia offerings standing at about 6" in Batroid mode (robot mode). Paint is good. Articulation is... well about the best it can be given the nature of the design. It can hit pretty much anything you saw on screen. A gymnast it's not. The only weak point is this one is a little light in metal content. Really the only die cast is the feet and parts of the internal armature. Everything else is a nice sturdy feeling ABS plastic. I've owned the hellish Toynami 1/100 Valkyries that feel like they will snap with every move. This is not them. This sucker is a joy to handle. The figure does do a perfect transformation, more or less. Although there are a few optional clean up parts to make the modes look good. The cockpit shield/glass must be parts swapped to change from clear glass mode to armored robot mode. Accessories include extra wings with hard points, 4 missile racks. a bevy of hands and adapters for all three modes (Betroid, Gerwalk and Fighter) for a Tamashii stand. Fighter mode landing gear does require parts swapping. But it is much sturdier (and easier) than some of the flip down versions on prior Valk's. This figure is a great starting point for the rapidly expanding in scale line that seems to be slowly covering all the classic mecha from the original Super Dimensional Fortress Macross show (robotech). Also available are the Zentradi pods a few other Valk variants including Skull One and the fully armored version, and a nice selection of Batroids. For Battetech fans they have also begun to release 1/100 scale matching Dougrams. So you can have a Pheonix Hawk a Shadow Hawk a Marauder and an Archer all standing side by side in scale on your desk. Glorious!

This is one of the best figures I’ve ever bought of the Valkyrie. It’s transformable and solid. Unlike the original Valkyrie that I bought as a kid back in the early 90s, this one has legs that pronate to the sides to give a more realistic pose. It’s smaller than what I thought it would be but still highly detailed for its size. The seller even gave a personalized note and a packet of green tea with this order which I thought was very considerate. It’s pricey, otherwise, I’d buy all the HI-Metal figures out there. I’m still very happy with this purchase.

Absolutely NOT worth the price. The toy feels like something you would pick up a Walmart or something. I don't recommend it for it's price...

Very high quality and really durable. I thought I broke one of the arms off, but it had only come unclipped from the slide. It's probably one of the best purchases for a toy I have ever had.

Small and delicate but a nice piece.

Anyone who loved Macross in either of its incarnations likely knows the storm of legal issues that are involved in licensing anything Macross. So, the costs are always insane compared to the quality. Still the price brings this down two stars. 1.5 if I could. This is a well-built display figure. It's not a toy. The small size and large price tag make this something for serious fans or collectors. 1. It's complicated to transform and while the parts are not "delicate" they can snap off and you had better be careful. 2. The accessories (hands, wings, landing gears, etc) should make it clear this is for display not for play. 3. It's small. I read the description but I was still kind of put off by the size when I got it. 4. It is fully painted and only minor swap out of parts is required and they all snap into place. The hands are a pain to remove just like all figures that use the small ball sockets. Over all, I am on the fence. I'll likely buy another one but it's going to be a while. My money could be better spent, but god I loved that show.

got this for my nephew for Christmas.....he absolutely loves it......

It's nice, and detailed, but it is tiny 220mm tall. Has a lot of accessories. Overall dimensions would be about a 1/3 of the size of a 1984 Transformer Jetfire (which is the same model)

WARNING: The SIZE shown for the product is size of the BOX, NOT the toy! In Battloid (robot) mode the toy stands at only 16 cm (6.25 inches) with the head lasers pointing straight up. There are also a few other misleading points in the product discription listed below. I just received my product and, while it IS a decent representation of beloved Veritech from Robotech, it does NOT meet the expectations set by the product images and description. First and foremost is the size. As mentioned, it is much smaller than expected. That was the biggest disappointment. Second: The product name "HI-METAL" is misleading. This thing is 99.9% plastic. The only metal is the feet, the screws, and arm joints (mainly stuff you don't see). Third: The head lasers pop-off VERY easily. I guarantee you will not be able to move them without them coming off. Fortunately they are not broken and can be put back on again. Fourth: The color is more of a light grey, not white. So, buyer beware, don't be fooled by the superbly lit and photoshopped product pictures. That said, I do like that it comes with two styles of hands, the round fingered ones and the square fingered ones, and all in all, I do actually like the product (So I tilted my review to 3 stars rather than the two it probably actually deserves). It's just that having paid more than $200 Canadian I was very disappointed when I opened the box.

バンダイさん！もっと目 ピカらして下さい。パッケージの写真は、かなりイイ感じで光ってますけど…実物は 真っ黒です⁇ せめて内側から反射する様な物などカマして、もう少し目の輪郭が分かる様にして欲しかったです。 今のバンダイさんの技術力なら可能だと思います。後、キャノピー開閉 ランディングギヤの収納 タイヤはゴムで回転可動しますとか、⁇？
