Why is my fresh ink not filtering down to the pen? i love this pen however i put a fresh tube in pen and it will not write!!!! help!

Thank you for choosing rOtring as your writing brand. Fountain pens require regular cleaning and maintenance in order to work properly. Please try to wash the nib under running water and then wipe it dry with a cloth. You can also try to unscrew the front end (the part with the nib) of the pen and put it in a glass of lukewarm water for a couple of hours. It will dissolve all the ink residue. The Rotring ArtPens use the Rotring ArtPen Ink Cartridges.

do these pens work on any surface?

They are essentially a calligraphic fountain pen, so surface you would use a fountain pen, or pen and ink, or watercolors on. Too porous, and the ink will bleed all over the place, leaving your letter forms, or other inked lines blotchy and deformed. If the surface is to slick, and non-porous, then the ink will not take at all, and just bead up and smear, or run right off.

Can i use any Waterproof ink?

It is basically a fountain pen. So yes you can use fountain pen waterproof ink. Do read about the ink before you buy ink. Noodler's Baystate inks are beautiful and waterproof but I have read that the Baystate inks can have a chemical reaction if mixed with other inks. like pen not clean well enough or mixing one own color. I have a separate pen and filling/cleaning syringe for my Baystate Blue. Have fun with the different inks and the pen.
