JavaJolt's Manual Coffee Grinder with ceramic burr. Our coffee mill is equipped with an adjustable ceramic burr, allowing you to adjust the coarsness of the grind. The outer body and handle are made of premium Stainless steel.Equipped with a conical ceramic bladePortable and travel friendly. Perfect for camping or hikingWhat is a burr grinder. They grind beans between two burred plates. The plates, or “burrs”, are flat in some models and conical in others. In our model these plates are made of ceramic. One plate remains stationary, while the other spins around. The chief advantage of a burr coffee grinder is that it grinds beans to a uniform size of particles. This makes for a better cup of coffee, avoids clogging problems, and gives you the flexibility to grind beans to the coarseness or fineness that best suits the kind of coffee or espresso maker you are using. For instance, when using a French Press, you want a “very coarse” grind. But when using a drip brewer you’ll set your grinder to give you a medium grind. This is a perfect manual coffee grinder allowing for great precision for anything including moka pot, drip coffee brewer, chemex, espresso or even is you are using Nespresso reusable pods. Some may be tempted to use this grinder for things other that coffee and tea and we hope you do. It does a great job and smoking herbs including marijuana and tobacco. Herbs grinder is another great use

... mainly use this as a spice grinder for spices like pepper, salt
I mainly use this as a spice grinder for spices like pepper, salt, and coriander. It works great for that. I grind all my spices to about the same coarseness (or fineness...I know, both of those are made up words, I couldn't think of a real word that was as accurate though), so I don't bother changing the setting now that I have it where I like it. I have a separate hand grinder for French press coffee (it also doesn't get changed), and one specifically for making Turkish coffee (it's only designed to turn stuff to a powder). If I had to change the setting on any of these, this is the easiest one to do so on, though out would be tough to set it back without keeping track of how much I turned it clockwise or counterclockwise (I would recommend writing down how much you turn it and in what direction, because most of us do a much poorer job of remembering that sort of thing that we like to admit. Plus, there's always the chance someone or something will interrupt you and make you forget). So, this isn't for people who want to use multiple settings and consistently get back to a certain setting.

Super little grinder
This is a very decent compact grinder that goes the whole range of coarse to fine, with a fairly even grind. The ceramic burr purportedly outlasts a steel burr by about 1 1/2 times. It's well built, easy to use with a sturdy handle. This is my first manual grinder, so I've got no other to compare it to (I'm replacing an electric Starbucks Barrista with a failing steel burr, that I was using daily for espresso) . However, for the very reasonable price, build quality and materials (plus the nice storage pouch and handy scoop), it's a no-brainer if you're opting out of more expensive electrics.

Great little grinder
I've tried a few of this style grinder in different brands and this one is certainly much better than my last one. The handle is much more solid and the pieces fit snugly (but not too tight), which means that it doesnt just fall apart each time you pick it up the way my last one did. I would not have thought there was so much variation between brands on such a simple design.

The grinder does not grind coffee as fine as I would like it but I still think ...
I don't know if this grinder was supposed to come with instructions or not but I did not get one. Thanks to youtube university ( :D) you can learn anything. The grinder does not grind coffee as fine as I would like it but I still think it is a great buy for travelers.

Great so far
So far, so good. Much better quality than a different brand coffee grinder that I bought first that broke (knob broke off of grinding arm) after a couple of months of use. The Java Jolt has a bit more capacity and is definitely much better quality. Have only used it twice since receiving it, but works great so far.

Perfect
Exceptional unit. Absolutely perfect grinder. Traded my electric grinder for this and will never go back. A quality product. Would give it 6 stars if I could.

Very happy with this grinder, easy to use, does a good job
There are several similar versions of this burr grinder on the market but they vary a lot in price. Because of that, I spent more time than usual choosing one. The reviews on this one were good and I liked the fact that the handle did not have any plastic parts that could crack over time or if dropped, so I gave it a try. I use a french press to make coffee and need a coarse grind. For years I've used a metal blade electric grinder, but no matter how careful I am with it, there's no way to keep from producing a lot of fine grounds, which add bitterness to the coffee. But on the first try, the Java Jolt produced the coarse grind I was after, and I had one of the best cups of coffee I'd ever made! It's true, the grind was not 100% consistent in size, but I think that is going to be true with any handheld burr grinder. And the Jolt did an infinitely better job than my old electric. So I'd say, if you've never used a burr grinder, this is a great one to start with. (And if you ever graduate to a high-end burr grinder, you could reserve this one for travel - it comes with a useful carrying pouch). The seller also provides good service. When my grinder arrived, I wanted to use it right away but I couldn't get the lid off. Before forcing it, and potentially breaking it, I wanted to consult the instructions. Frustratingly, none were included. I contacted the seller, and they responded very quickly by emailing me a PDF of the instructions. I was drinking coffee in no time.
